5 sets with 135, total of 82 reps. 75 reps over 5 sets of squats with the same weights, both squats and trap bar deads in the same workout, total 10 sets and one tired mofo. I'm done with trying to put up hero numbers, but I can damn sure keep up on a long hike these days

I was up to 100/100 with 155 about 2 years ago, just decided to get back into the high rep thing after realizing what a wuss I was during hunting season.

Not that lift, but I am still trying to do a personal best on squats. Age 56, soon 57. Body weight 192-194. Hitting 455 and want 500 in next 6 months. I am very proud considering I was on chemo 6 years ago.

Bird! Killer lifting! I have been doing heavy partial squatting starting with bar on pins and doing top 6 to 8 inches in the squat rack.kinda a chicken to do big weight on floor without a spotter.

After a complete chest workout we do an aerobic set with 135 flat bench for most reps. My best is 53 reps without stopping, you stop once and you are done.

Wow there are some strong mofos in this thread. I might try to add 135 for 100 reps of bench to my workout one of these days.

Are you guys finding you are less likely to get hurt with the trap bar? I am always tweaking out my lower back with squats or deads, never anything too serious but enough to stop my progress and take a month off. I work a lot and sit down all the time so I think my lower back and hamstrings are about as elastic as twine.

Also wondering if any of you guys that can lift heavy ever do a lot of running or hiking also? I always felt like I could either get better at running or get stronger at squatting/deadlift, but not both.

Trap bar is very eazy on back. I am not much of a runner but do treadmill 5 days a week and am over 10 k steps most days. But it takes me 7 mins to do a mile. I am not really trying to improve my mile time just keep in shape and get strong.

Only down side to trapbar is grip. I can pick up 500 but not hold it long enuff to stand all the way up. But straps make it possible. I hate using straps and only use when i have no other choice. I am working on my grip so maybe it will catch up.

agree, some strong dudes here.....I am going to be 55 in the spring. 5'10,weigh 186 now. was 178 a few months ago. flat benched the 135, 35 straight reps. can pop out 50 push ups no problem, maxing just over 250. hurt my shoulder (rotator cuff) recently, so now I have stepped on the treadmill for 1st time in my life, about 3 times a week. much easier than running outdoors, so far I love it. doing 5k's 2 to 3 times a week but need to keep bumping up my M.P.H. as I am very slowwww. lol. still lifting , but avoiding bench cuz of pain in shoulder. biggest challenge for me as I age is curbing my appetite!! to keep that flat belly look I sooo want. good luck guy's and keep pounding the weights!!

4slash6, that great! Its important to keep active. Shoulder trouble is always a concern as we age. I had right shoulder and tendon pain, and took a full year to work it out. When i got back into it i could not even bench 275! As part of my new plan is less total reps. 135 x10 225 x5 275 x 2-5(depending on how light it feels then try a single with 315, and 325. Not back to my best but moving up slowly. Now my right side feels great, but some soreness in my left. Guess its just the way it is.

your a beast JOHN!! my best bench 275 x 1 ...10 years back. I do need time for this shoulder as it is still tender to sleep on it......I just started working out again feb this year. had just retired, 12/11 and thought I would give it a go as I use to enjoy it. was shooting for 300 on the bench but injury has put me on hold. I have since found that my grip was too wide on the bar, with my elbows too far out from chest for a good safe lift. what drives me is seeing a few older/lighter guy's than myself kickin my butt in the weight room.......2 things I want to do over the next 7 years or so and that is to get/keep myself in great shape, and spend more time at the local grade schools since I now have the time. good luck with your training, SLASH

After rotator cuff surgery 10 years ago(was benching 320 then), back on the rep thing and trying to do more cardio. Good to see a lot of us old guys still clinging to our youth. I'm 46 with a 2 year old son so I gotta stay in shape so I can still whip him in basketball in the years to come. My dunking days are over, but I'm still gonna beat him into his teens.....

LoL @ Slash! My close friend is 10 lbs lighter and has done 365 in competition he is 4 yrs younger and pushes me on bench. We train a bit different than most and never kill a body part. We never do a chest or back work out but do some of each when ever we lift and almost never do very many sets. I am trying to teach myself some Olympic lifts the clean and press and one arm barbell snatch. My best clean and press is only 205 and right arm barbell snach 120 lbs. My weak and a bit sore left only 110. I also do weighted pullups that are great fun.
