Default T16 HD 3 speed?

I bought some 4 speeds the other day and a T16 3 speed was included in the deal. What years were these used? I've read that this was the base transmission in a '60s big block Chevelle. What else were they used in?

Thanks for any help.

I don't remember the exact model of 3 speed but when I bought my 1969 Chevelle SS 396 325 hp, it had a factory 3 speed in it. It was a base, no option car.

Search engines blow my mind. The day I posted this, I had only been able to find one page with any relevant info. Now, I searched again, and the top hit contained more info from a 4 year old post on a Nova site. I can't figure it.

Anyway, for those following along at home, this is a fully synchronized 3 speed(1 year before the Saginaw became fully synchroed). It was an option behind the 327 in '65 in bigger cars, but was dropped for the Saginaw in that application for '66. It was an option for SS350 Camaros and Novas. It was the base transmission behind 396 and 427 in the mid to late 60s.
