That's about the gist of it. At least from my perspective. original GTO had a different look as well as the power. When it was introduced. The new GTO. At least in my eye, does not have that. perhaps it does to younger people. But considering I have a 25, year old son. and 3 young guys who work for me. None of them are impressed enough to buy one.

Support bacteria. They're the only culture some people have.

if you are comparing it to the classic GTO's i can see how it doesn't impress you guys, after all this is a classic pontiac board, so expectations will be super high to impossible.

but for what the car is, an provides for the price, a blend of performance, comfort, good looking coupe.

people are talking about it , partly cause of the name, and partly because it really is a great car, and appeals to a wider market than the f-car.

Well, the car wasn't targeted at your demographic and I don't know many 18 year old's that can afford a $33K car.

I do like the the look of the autocross more too however.

No, this has nothing to do with the Aussie issue. It has to do with a GM issue and thier lack of foresight.

If Putz (sorry) Lutz, had seen this revolution coming (DeLorean and the original GTO created a revolution, not followed it), at least GM may have done a better job of joining it with a vehicle design with some balls. This combo is just the common Chevy engine in a run of the mill body style.

IT WILL NOT STAND OUT IN A PARKING LOT, AND IT WILL NOT BE FEARED ON THE STREET....it's that simple...

Thee Monero is a fine automible I have been told, and from my test drive, it seems sound and well built, but it is just not a GTO, and never will be, in my mind.

I went to the Baltimore new car show and saw the new GTO and there was a news crew there and they put my wife and I on TV (she's easier on the eyes then me) and when we were on air I told them I wanted a new GTO and then they asked my wife what see wanted and she told them a new SUV, then the reporter asked why did I want a new GTO, and I told him "BECAUSE I WANT SOMETHING FAST" and he asked my wife the same and she told him she was looking at safety and price, and that was about it.

The new GTO I thought was nicer in person and I thought the interior was very nice the lack of hood scoops was dishearting but the 64 GTO didn't have 'em either.

I heard the '05 GTO will have hood scoops and the new LS2 motor with LS6 heads and 400 HP. If this holds true I will probably buy one, as long as the wife doesn't pop out twins or triplets.

P.S. The new getto mustang was there it had so much chrome on the gauges I think they need to call it the bling-bling option.

I don't get why everyone feels personally insulted that the car isn't what they had hoped it would be. It has an independent rear, never available in a Z28 or T/A, has six speeds, a modern interior, and arguably the best pushrod engine in the world (exc its cousin the Z06). And as for the fixation on hood scoops, they were only made functional for what, 7 years of the GTO's life? The rest of the time, they were just good looking decoration, like the current Mustangs. The new T-bird and new Beetle are proof that retro designs grow old on people in a hurry, so a modern design will probably sell more cars in the long run.

Having said all that, I am disappointed it isn't any faster in a straight line than the Z or T/A.

Just a general-purpose motorhead

really depends on the time of year. winter my son drives his explorer. summer he has an 87 monte carlo ss, a 70 gto, and I just gave him my 68 gto for his 25th birthday. On average he is only home about 6 weeks a year. the rest of the time it's what ever the air force gives him.as far as the others one has a firebird. and a blazer, one has a mustang covert. 90 something. and the 3rd kid is 23 just got his license. so the other to are taking him to the car show this weekend. why do you ask.

You are either a member of the psycic friends network of you have a reading comprehension problem. Read my original statement again... Slowly. I'll wait...

The "fact" in question refers to my conscience. Let my lay it out for you:

Fact: The name bothers me.

Fact: If I buy the car, the Pontiac and GTO identification will come off, because the name bothers me.

Fact: My conscience will not allow me to drive the car around with the Pontiac and GTO identification displayed, because the name bothers me.

Do you get it now or do you want to argue about my favorite color?

Because this car has a lot going for it, I took a second look yesterday. This time I brought my wife to see how she liked it. Her opinion of the exterior was luke warm. "It's ok" she said. Her opinion of the interior was: "It's cheap". "Lots of plastic". As I looked at it for the second time, I had to agree. The center pod of the instrument panel is covered with a cheap looking and feeling plastic. It looks like it will be a rattle trap in a short time.

I have a few other points to consider for those who have not seen it yet. I am not trying to convince anyone that it is wrong if your opinion does not match mine, I just want to throw some things out there.

I'm not a fan of the headliner materiel.

There is no dead pedal. A car of this nature needs a dead pedal.

Someone had kicked a hole in the door speaker on the drivers side. Might never happen again, I'm just saying...

If the right rear headrest is extended, the bright yellow trunk release handle is clearly visable. Looks tacky in a car designed to compete with the 5 series BMW.

There is no central locking feature. In my opinion, that is a serious oversight in a car of this expense.

A car this large needs a bigger trunk. The car may carry four adult people, but you won't be able to carry a weeks worth of their groceries.

So there you have it. Before some of you tell me I should be shopping for a minivan, let me remind you that the car is apparently targeted at the 5 series BMW market. If GM wanted an all out musclecar, they would have sent us (or at least offered) a stripped version with roll-up windows and minus all the other porky options, then priced it at about 25k.

So as it stands now, in my qualified opinion as a consumer, the car is too expensive and loaded to reach true musclecar status, and too cheezy to compete with the cars of its target demographic. A price break would fix a lot of that though, and I'll bet in a few months they will be under 30k.

No thanks. My mother taught me never to argue with mentally disabled people.
Besides, it's obvious you don't know the difference between a 'fact' and an 'opinion'.

I am not a huge fan of the '04 GTO. But, I am very interested in the quality of many new cars being made today (including the GTO). Truthfully, I have a lot invested in two Judges (69 and 70) and I am worried that the new cars could hurt the old car market. Let's face it, for coolness factor the old cars win every time. For quality of construction, the new cars are great. Plus, some new cars are less than the old ones. My son will have alot of fun buying old cars in 20 years.

As for BMW's...J U N K! I have a 328i with 25,000 miles with over $4,000 of non-warranted repairs, my GS650 motorcycle stalls and surges so badly its dangerous. That's my punishment for living in Milwaukee, home of The Motor Company, and buying a POS German single cylinder. My father's 740il with 33,000 miles won't exceed 25 mph and is in the shop for "major" repairs.

Spare me the Euro-wannabee crap. There's nothing great about my wife's Passat wagon. Did I mention that my Cherokee has 170,000 miles and has never broken down?

I'd switch brands (yes, for a Pontiac) in a heartbeat (I guess that's Chevy). Did I mention that my brother wishes he would have looked at a GTO before buying his 2004 BMW 330? Alot more speed for 10,000 less.

Germany is not the standard upon which other cars should be judged any longer. I hated the 2004 GTO when it was first produced and that's because I needed to see Ram Air stickers and carousel red paint. I was wrong. Although that 2004 Judge on that guy's email is really, really cool.

Good for you Pontiac! You dropped the phoney plastic skirts and started making a nice clean car for reasonable money. Add some nice performance packages and the sky is the limit. If a Judge does appear in '05, my beloved krautmobile is in the paper.

My two cents.
