Just have a quick question. My 76 455 is leaking where the oil filter goes on so I want to replace this peice.

1.What is it that peice called?

2. Can it be taken off and replaced without removing the oil pan?

No problem. Oil filter housing I believe is correct terminology. 2 bolts and it is off gasket behind it. Usually they leak because oil filter gasket was left behind with last oil change. If leaking at block just remove and put some silicone on after cleaning it up then replace.

What Bobcat said except there are three (3) bolts. Just so you are not confused

Are you sure the filter is not leaking at the o-ring. If you remove the housing from the engine block you will need a gasket to install it. Fel-Pro #13426 or Victor Reinz #B7147 will do it. If you can't find one then let me know and i will mail you one, FREE on me. Let me know if you need help.

Thanks guys.

The leak is occurring where the filter and housing meet. I have already taken off the filter and cleaned both surfaces. There are no gaskets stuck to it. It is not leaking from the block.

I'm going to try and get the housing and gasket this weekend. I appreciate the offers for the gasket and housing but I am in Canada and it is probably not worth shipping it. I should have no problem finding what I need here.

Oil sending unit? The metal piece that the wire plugs into from the wiring harness. These will leak while your housing is just fine.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Good idea to check that but nope. Not leaking from there. I can actually see the oil resting on top of the filter.
