What are the production numbers for both cars ? Just wondering if the real 1967 SS Chevelle is harder to come by …than the GTO ? Thanks

1967 Chevellle SS396 production numbers: 59,685 hardtops + 3,321 convertibles = 63,006 total.
1967 Pontiac GTO production numbers: 65,176 hardtops + 7,029 coupes + 9,517 convertibles = 81,722 total.

Thanks for that. My friend has a clone 66 Chevelle SS….which most seem to be. While at a car show…a lot of people check out his Vin tag…to see if it’s a (138) car….and of course he gets butt hurt ..cus it’s not real…lol. So I was wondering if they were that rare….I guess not.

1966 Chevelle SS396 production numbers: 66,843 hardtops + 5,429 convertibles = 72,272 total.
1966 Pontiac GTO production numbers: 73,785 hardtops + 10,363 coupes + 12,798 convertibles = 96,946 total.

I just picked put a 66 chevelle convertible, 6 banger. The made around 2,000 of those. About half the production of the super sports. Recently I was at a large chevelle only show and out of prob 200 cars there were about 3 that were not SS's. And only 1 that was a 6 cylinder. I was thinking about a resto mod but might go back completely stock just because.......

I read a long time ago they made far more SS emblems than cars

is equal to 66,306 please?

My simple math says call it 60,000 Chevelle SS plus 4,000 convertibles
is still only 64,000 not 66,000???????????????????????? Are some of these the Unaccounted for ones?????

I just saw a black on black 66 Chevelle 427 SS, bored out to a 502, this past Sunday at our Cruise Night. He says it's the real deal 66 427, but that's just not true. 67 was the first years for the 427 and 68 the last... 2 years only. I didn't get any photos but I will on August 22nd at our annual St Jude's Benefit car show.

I believe Chevrolet started putting 427s in cars in late 1965 for the 1966 model year and ended the 427 in 1969.

I may be wrong, but I thought the only 427 Chevelle’s were COPO’s. I don’t believe there were any COPO Chevelle’s in 66.

Yeah, no SS427 Chevelles, ever.

Impala SS427 was a three year option package, from 67-69, IIRC.
I know you could order a 427 in a '66 B-body though. They just didn't have the SS427 badging specific.

Chevy didn't put 427's in Chevelles in '66 and '67. Yenko did a bit later, in '68 or so. The '66-'67 SS Chevelles were all 396 powered.

One of my older cousins bought a new 1967 Impala SS427 with a four speed. It was that pretty Marina Blue - just like the one in this page from the factory brochure, except he put a set of Cragar S/S wheels on his. I was still a kid at the time, and thought it was the coolest thing I'd seen.

I was misunderstood, I said Chevrolet put 427s in cars(meaning "B" bodies) in late 1965 for the '66 model year
