I'm using a decades-old Fluke 88 automotive multimeter. So far, so good, other than I had to replace the test leads once. That meter has been replaced in the line-up by the Fluke 88 Series V (5).

Consider looking around at the local pawn shops. Lots of guys giving up automotive tune-up equipment such as meters and timing lights.

My dad got me this one, I think he found it at an estate sale of a retired mechanic. Had to replace the leads, no problem Klein Tools makes some nice replacements.
