Have a club member asking about who restores '65 GTO grills. I looked on Ames and they only carry an ABS copy so it seems that restoration might be a better avenue if there aren't any major flaws. Anyone have suggestions? If the replacements look and fit good let me know and I can relay that to him.

Plating on them is minimal as only the leading edges are shown , i have had several sets done & the cost was minimal . Get a quote from your local plater . Not a fan of Plastic grilles & consoles etc.

The plating on my grills was good. There was some pitting of the top surface of the pot metal which I filled and painted. I had no broken horizontal fins. Not sure how that could ever be fixed. Biggest challenge is the precise taping required to separate the black and silver painted areas. Mine came out looking very nice, but I wound up installing Reproduction grills anyway. That was 10 years ago and they still look perfect. The car goes to shows and a Sunday drive now and then, but mostly stays in the climate controlled garage.

I had the repro grills on the last 65 I owned. I would not have known they were reproductions except for the fasteners. And much lighter than the original. No way I would try to restore a set with the repro's being so good.
