[1965 Pontiac Parisienne]

Just rebuild my Carter ..
there a discharge needle in the carb kit .. for the center jet housing .. but at my carb there wasn’t any needle or ball placed …or came it out during cleaning blow out ? have all Carter AFB this needle ? Or I’m wrong ….. check ball or needle ?
I’m confused what to do … book days needle ..other illustration shows ball

You must have something in the accelerator pump outlet. Most of the AFB carbs that I have done (and that's a lot) have had the needle valve.

As I remember, and it's probably been 30 years since I've done an AFB, there's one in the accelerator pump well (ball) and the needle under the discharge nozzle (#42). I used to do them all the time back in the 70s and 80s, but the demand to rebuild AFBs just went away when the cars they came on were no longer road cars. The last one I did was for a 61 Bonneville in the 90s.

I may be wrong about the ball in the pump well, you can forget details over 30 years, I'm sure of the needle under the discharge nozzle, that is clear for sure.

1957-1958 1:st design Pontiac Carter AFB´s uses #116-13 5/32" steel pump check ball.

1958 2:nd design-1965 uses #17-51 brass pump check needle.

1966-1967 uses #116-25 1/8" aluminium pump check ball.
