66 gto outside mirror fix
Hey guys, my mirror was flopping all over the place when on the freeway...........took it apart today and it seems to be alot tighter after putting two washers under the screws..........curious if anyone did this different, always like to learn new stuff.......

I used a small bunch and peened the retainer/strap at center to create a slight divot. (on the bench of course)
This added friction and helps keep it in place.

My mirrors move a lot on my '64. I think they are Ames replacement mirrors. I liked the factory one that I had previously. It had a draw screw to tighten it down. But I wanted to add a passenger mirror and a fresh driver side one. How'd you get the mirror off without breaking it? I'd like to fix mine.

I have fixed 67 & 68 GTO mirrors by removing the mirror snap retention ring and placing the mirror body in my left hand/palm and then with an accurate strike with my Snap-On compound hammer I hit the strap across the pivot ball which adds resistance to the pivot ball. Reinstall the lens and snap ring and reinstall on the door (s). Fixed many a floppy mirrors this way.
