Default 16x8 BOP 8 lug tire confirmation

About ready to pull the trigger on the wheels, but...... Want to keep my skirts, I'm sure the 235/60r16 will fit without issue, just want to confirm. Plan is 16x8 chrome, with 235/60r16 Cali Whitewall tires on my 65 Bonnie conv.

It completely depends on what the offset of the wheels are and how close the outer wheel lip and tire sidewall is to the fenderwell lip / skirt. Are these aftermarket 8-lug wheels widened to the inside of the wheel? If so you’ll probably be ok, but any movement of the rim lip closer to the fender will probably result in rubbing. The 1965 & ‘66 Pontiac full-size rear wheel wells are pretty tight unless you’re using a high-offset rim that moves the centerline of the wheel and tire in towards the frame.

I’m currently running 275-50-17s on the back of my ‘66 on custom 17x8.5” rims widened to the inside. They ended beinn about a 5.75” offset I believe.

I'm running 235/60R17 tires on an 8" rim (9" overall width) with a 5.05" backspace American Racing chrome Torque-Thrust wheels on my '65 Catalina Safari. From what I'm looking at on the car you will be right against the molding with the 4.75" backspace. I narrowed the lip and molding to insure there wouldn't be any rubbing with the 5" backspace.

5.5" Backspacing would have been better, and 5.75" would have been best. I could have went with the same looking wheel but American Racing wanted over $200 additional per wheel for that half in increase in backspacing and I cheeped out and didn't want to spend another $800. It was a rough pill to swallow to realize that the '65 big car has an inch narrower wheel well than my GTO.

I wonder if the "Pontiac 8 Lug Wheel Chrome 16 x 7; 4.25 bs" would be a better option then with 235/60/16

While the 8 inch rim may fit, the 7 would probably be a safe bet and with a 235 the 7 inch is plenty wide.
