Default Vinyl Top Trim questions ... and one bonus question

Is anyone making the vinyl top trim for the rear valance along the top of the trunk? And .. the side pieces that go between the rear quarter window and the rear corner trim pieces? I don't see them in the Ames catalog.

I just noticed on my two sets of "hood scoops" that one set has three studs, and the other set has two studs. Not broken off studs ... you can see they were never installed .... same part numbers on both sets. What's up with that?

Hood Scoops: I think 68-70 scoops were bossed for 3, but i have seen a mix of 3 or 2 studs installed.

Cast Corner pieces were a PY development under Spotts (and very nice). I'm unaware of Stainless repops.

I've got the quarter window pieces, and can order the rear corner pieces ... what I need is the pieces that go between them.

early 68 hoods had a T shaped bracket welded between the two mounting stud flaps to extend it out to the third one in the middle. probably discontinued early on since that bracket was in the way of opening the scoops up for RA. here's a pic of my 68 hood that still had chunks of them in place. back was chopped off to make room for the open scoop

should have asked for those trim pieces a few weeks ago.....I walked past a table at the Carlisle swap meet that had the three long straight pieces taped together for $10 I could have grabbed for you!

Yes ... now I remember I've seen that bracket before. Actually think I've cut one off before too

And yes those are pieces I'm looking for ... long one across the back, two shorter ones for the sides.

Did the two tone, non-vinyl cars use the trim also? Just wondering if I searched for that if it would help.

yes, same trim on a two tone, but I'd think you'd have a harder time finding a car with that option than a vinyl roof car.

Jeez, you'd think these would be common as dirt with all the people that remove their vinyl tops

Can one of the 68 guys post a pic of how the vinyl top is finished off at the top of the trunk? Does it end under the trim piece, or does it extend beyond the trim and fold down into the trunk recess?

Vinyl top is mostly done, just holding off on the back until I track down the necessary trim so I know exactly where to cut it.

Had a few bubbles/blisters after the install, a couple of them I used a hypo and injected glue and that seemed to work ... others just disappeared overnight ... which I found strange.

I trimmed mine to end under the stainless all the way around, including across the rear. I'm pretty sure that's correct.
I think those pieces are hard to find because once removed they are very easily damaged, ie., bent.
I bought a couple of pieces on eBay once and when I received them they were in a cardboard tube with about 8 inches of the long piece you're talking about sticking out of the end. Of course it was damaged.

Excellent, thank you Greg. That looks great.

Can someone tell me what I'm looking at in this ebay action.

Looks like:
All the drip rail pieces (4), the 1/4 window molding (2), the quarter panel molding (2), the corner pieces (2) and what looks like a couple of piece of rear window glass trim ... it doesn't look like it contains the long piece that goes across the back.

Looks like a complete set of vinyl top trim with an extra of the long piece. The other stuff looks like a set of quarter glass trim and weather strip.
After looking at ALL the pics, the pieces with the dents looks like the vertical trim for the windshield...

I still have two original hoods with these "loops" intact.

Looked at that ad again, one of the long pieces looks like could be the rear vinyl trim but one looks like the rear hood trim or the upper windshield trim.

The two longest ones are upper drip rail I think, going by the slash cut ends, and the recess on the other end to fit into the upper drip rail corner piece.

Ok, makes sense. Forgot about those. So you will still need the long vinyl trim piece across the rear.

It's already sold anyway. Looks like I may get what I need from a PY member.

Once I get the vinyl top and windshield done I'm just looking at some front end paint and body work and this baby is close to finished.
