Clainging noise on my Firebird
Again on my 69 Firebird with a 350 and turbohydramatic tranny another problem has come up. A rather loud clanging sound is heard intermittenly. You can hear it when you start the car (yes it almost sounds like the starter) and it clangs every once in a while when driving. To me it sounds like its coming from the tranny area and its not the starter or alt. Of course, it only acts up when I am by myself and have no one to crawl around underneath!

I had a similar problem ,took off the inspection cover to look at the TQ converter and there was a alignment lug(motor to trans)bouncing around.

I would start with inspecting the Starter (making contact, loose bolts), Torque converter(loose bolts) and Flywheel(loose bolts, cracked).
