Yes it would be 4 bolt if the block has the caps and is stock bore I’m thinking 500-1000 depending on condition

What year was that? I would set a land speed record for my wallet at $1000.

I sold it just a few months ago. It was a 1970 model. Everyone told me I was throwing away money trying to save a block with no caps. Then a week after I sold it my Machinist guaranteed me he could have fit it with the program engineering caps for 300 bucks

I'm going thru doing a block with no caps.I bought a full set of 5 factory caps,My machinist told me that getting 2 of the 5 would take too much labor to fit so ordered a set of billet caps for around $550 for caps and studs with no labor yet.Unless it was a numbers special block I would never touch another block with out the born with caps.Jmo,Tom

Is a 70 455 HO block anything special?
The engine was not, although the first and only high compression 455. Had D port heads (64's ?).
Just asking.

All Pontiac 4 bolt main caps where made of armsteel which is a nice improvement over the all the 2 bolt caps which where just plain grey type cast iron.

Nothing special about the block. All 1970 455's were casting 9799140.
So the only difference is most had 2-bolt caps, and some had 4-bolt caps.

I won’t even call on a block without caps, I’ve seen how fast the ticket and time builds on Pontiacs.

I always torque up the main caps when looking at a possible core purchase.

Big valve "64" headed '70 455 engines had factory 4 bolt caps, so did a few '70 YH coded 455's... have to ck the '70 YH's.

Availability... there are quite a few '70 factory 4 bolt 455 blocks out there. '70 XF coded 455's are much more commonly than WA's used in 4spd '70 GTO's.

WIW is in the eye of buyer. Regional availability, or in the case of the "sky is falling crowd", lol, perceived lack of availability, often drive rediculous asking prices. What 2 letter code block is this block & condition? Thats the kicker.

Those engines would make a car like your's 'git some gone' and didn't need a 3000+ stall converter to make it happen. Even with the low perf 360 horse version.

Thanks, I know. That's the future plan for my next engine. Likely a twin to Jim Hand's wagon engine...

I remember walking away from a complete 455 HO in a 70 GP because I didnt want to spend the extra time pulling it out. (We got the 12 bolt). Would have cost $125 bucks back in the early 90's. Had no idea this stuff would dry up.

I was very happy when I confirmed that our 421 block (October 65 date code) was a 4 bolt main. Goes nicely with the rest of the HP parts added when I had it rebuilt, and the parts like the hand ported 6777 heads and roller tipped rocker arms that were already on our real 65 GTO, Royal Bobcat Tribute car.
