Default New truck - sticker + 10%

I happened to see an add for a 2022 2500 Silverado 4x4 at a dealer. Caught my eye being black, Gas engine, sticker price is $57,000. Went to look at it, very nice truck. Salesman said there is a 10% service fee added to the sticker. Due to no availability on the 2500 trucks. What the hell. Called another dealer and they have a 15% service fee.
I offered them $55,000 cash. He tried not to laugh in my face. I have a feeling that they will have no problem getting what they want for it. Considering there are only 3 2022 2500's within 30 miles of me.
Looks like I will be towing the enclosed car trailer with my F150 for a couple more years.

Supply and demand. A $5000 furnace now costs $7,000.

So glad I bought my two GMC's when I did. This greed and shady business tactics are disgusting. Reaffirms my opinion on the majority of vehicle retailers: scum of the earth.

It's not greed when there is no supply.

Drive around and look at the dealers lots. Extremely low inventory of new vehicles (if they have any) and they are forced to pay through the nose for your trade in.

I benefitted back in July when I purchased my Cadillac CT4. As an employee, I got the Caddy for over $5,000 off sticker (and they had to go 500 miles to get it and bring it to MN). I got over $7000 more for my 2014 Cadillac ATS4 than I would have a year ago because of the shortage of quality used cars. They sold my trade (at a profit) in less than 30 days.

Ordered a new Bronco and we'll see next year when built what they want. Allegedly list price at this time.

It is greed. They can sell what they have at the manufacturers price, which is already ridiculous. Yes it is a supply and demand but there is no reason why the price should escalate other than greed. They are making less money because of the low volume of sales, so they add a silly charge to help make up the difference. Nothing but Greed.

When you go to the grocery store and there is only one roll of TP on the shelf and the price is $25 would that not be greed as well?

Looked at a new GMC 3500 yesterday. MSRP was $91,000 and they wanted 10% fee plus taxes added to it which put it over 105K. Since its just for farm use I am gonna keep my 07 LBZ Duramax for bit longer.

As long as people keep buying them they wont go back down. Once big business realizes the public is willing to pay a price, they wont ever put them back all the way down. No matter what the supply situation is.

They would just produce less to keep the price elevated. Less work for the same profit. I dont know about the car industry but Im sure there are industries already doing this.

The service fees or price adjustments or whatever they want to call them are added by the dealers, not by the manufacturers. Not all dealers are doing it, so shop around.

Got it for about 10K off sticker but barely drove due to everything went to s%%# just a month later.

Had the selling dealership/salesman email me last month offer me 5K more then I paid for it if I wanted to sell it back to them.

Dealerships being a single product retailer don't have much choice, when volume of sales go down, they have to raise prices to what the market will bear. Unlike the grocery store that doesn't sell the last roll of TP for $25, because they can sell 1000 other products for which there is no shortage.

At the volume many dealers are selling, they have to charge more or fire everyone and close their doors. Best option as a buyer is to just wait it out. Dealerships my very well be calling customers unreasonably greedy for wanting all their discounts when times are so hard for dealerships. Everyone has to make a living.

I was going to buy a new truck and just decided to wait it out, put a couple thousand in the 2011 and it will last many years yet.

Brandy new $50K trucks aren't exactly a necessity of life, it's not like they are charging $10/gal for gas during a hurricane. Even if the old truck is getting tired and it's needed for work ... always the option of spending a few dollars on it to keep it going. Not really the same as shortages of fuel, food or medicine.

Look for leftover/new 2021s (or even 2020s - there are a few around here). They are discounting those.

Welcome to Capitalism. Right now the absentee rate of the Carrier factories in Indiana and Tennessee is 30%. Less available= more money. We can grovel about it all we want. Those dealers and anyone that sells these products have to stay afloat or you wont have anywhere to buy anything. We have to get people back to work!!

If your one of the $100 down buyers I don’t think it’s going to go your way.

FWIW. Back end prices are through the roof. I am paying about 25% more for wholesale vehicles than I was paying 2 years ago. My margins aren't any better than they were 2 years ago as the cost of doing business has gone through the roof... let alone finding people that are willing to work and do a good job.
