"The Banshee"
Pontiac Mag, June 1988. Def a weird and impractical thing, but maybe lent some styling cues to the '90s Trans Am's. |

One coupe, one convertible. One has a V8 and one has an OHC6. Both cars still exist; one is owned by Joe Bortz in Chicago, the other by the dealer Napoli in CT. K

Something I never noticed before on the Banshees is they had fly off hand brake handles, on the hump between the seats - I wonder if that was the first application of that kind of hand brake used on US cars? It was common on european cars, but back then most US cars used a pull handle under the dash.

I just came across this Banshee live video being offloaded for a car show! This convertible at this time has a 326 ci Motor, when did it get the 421 ci Engine? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIi4RfK4cEM |

My father's vette was a 1966 Sting ray and then a 1968 Mako shark and if I remember, the first one had the pull E-Brake on the left of the steering wheel. Then the next one had the E-Brake in the center. Driving to the races back then I sat on the pad between the seats and my Twin sat in the Passenger seat, even though I was a little uncomfortable I could see all around plus I could see the speedo as we raced car to car at most lights. Dad would say I will suck him up in my Exhaust pipe and he always did. Both Engines were Blue printed and balanced, by race rules, in the day. They were 500 HP. I am pretty sure the later one was Tri-power because I remember the Triangle shaped Air Filter in 1968. I am thinking he had a Lotus Elan next and that one had the E-Brake in the center, being a foreign car. They used that E-Brake back then while racing and soon after they devised a way to Brake or stop the rear tires separately. Not sure how they did it? My father and his friend opened a speedo repair and retail sales of race parts store, out of a Great Bears old shop, in order to offset the racing costs. The 1963-64 X400
Where is the 59 - there ARE pictures of it. There is a 1960 version, but no 61 or 62 which were parts cars? Is the 63/64 the same car? I know I posted another article on these X400's buried somewhere in these posts. |

Somewhere in my reading about this subject of the person who was restoring the X-400, I do remember that the car was used as a Factory Test car and shown in its changed form over the years. If I can find the Text, may I insert it into your Thread? I should have that X-400 build information stored on my computer somewhere. Hesster1977, I keep your files in one file, I might be able to find the Article about the X-400, if I saved it to your file, on my computer? I just looked in your file on my computer for Info. about the X-400 and found nothing, I will search my archives for the Article that I read about the X-400 rebuild.
