Default What is this type of wire terminal called?

Hello electrical gurus. I accidentally broke the terminal off the wire which runs to the light switch in the center console in my '66 GTO. Can someone please tell me what these wire terminals are called? I haven't been able to track it down yet. Thanks!

Looks like a male packard 56

Clay

PS Pretty sure I've replaced them with regular 1/4" male from the parts store

The male packard 56 appears to be slightly different (photo below). Not sure how interchangeable they are. I had thought about using a regular male spade, but this hook style snaps into the switch to prevent it from backing out. A regular spade wouldn't be able to do that.

What’s wrong with the one in the picture? Can’t you desolder it, open it up, and reuse it?

I tried to do that, but the crimped tabs broke off immediately when opening them.

Is that the type of switch where the bulb plugs into the switch like the glove box light?

If so ... that's a special terminal, it slides into a groove the switch housing and actually makes contact with the bulb base. On the glove box light I'm pretty sure the bulb won't even stay in without the terminal inserted in the switch. I think the groove in the terminal is specially shaped to grab the prong on the bottom of the bulb.

Only place I've come across that exact terminal is the glove box light button/switch.

Yes, that is precisely how it works. It is used with the glove box switch as well as the center console switch on '66 GTOs (likely others, too).

I have been unable to find a name for what they're called or find them locally, so I contacted American Autowire. Cost me $10 to have them send me two of these terminals. Kinda frustrating to pay much for a few small terminals, but it is what it is.

Price is high ... but yeah, if there are only like two of them on the whole car I imagine they can be tough to find.

I just assumed (wrongly, it seems) that despite being used only in a few locations, they would nevertheless have been a commonly available electrical terminal. Nope!

Seems too late to help you but this website has an amazing catalog of terminals. Might be worth sending them your photo just to find out if they have some tucked away.
