Default A different Heat riser?

When running my car in muggy or cold weather it seems to run a bit rich and not warm up quickly. Makes sense since I put a full length header on it and blocked off the exhaust crossover. Curious if anyone has had this issue before? Would it be worth it to weld in some kind of flange to the header and go back to the factory crossover? Are there any other workarounds?

I run a stock exhaust manifold but don't have the X over either. My car has a man choke carb so no issue.Seems to warm up OK but I'm not in real cold weather.Tom

I haven't done it, but the newer late 70's Rochestor carbs had electric choke springs you may try to incorporate.

I have done it on my 4 cylinder since I used a ram air I manifold from RARE. I converted over to a manual choke and it works much better in the cooler temps. Coldest I had it out was 35 degrees and it warmed up fine.

Yeah its a 4 cyl, I'm running 390 cfm holley with electric choke. I adjusted the time and speed of the fast idle, it seems a little happier. A manual choke might be the way to go though.

With the header, you will need to do a lot of fabricating to get any heat riser valve to work. It will warm up a little quicker if you can fabricate a cross-over that can connect to the header. If you do fabricate one to fit the header, put it into the exhaust at the collector. It will not warm up as fast as a system that has the heat riser valve in place, but the manifold temperature will warm up faster, and be more stable.
