What motor did the #13 heads come from in 1970. There is a pair on e-bay and the seller claims that they are from RAIII auto. Is that correct.

The also came on the Grand Prix.
The RA III automatics usually had the 13 heads.

I believe the 1970 automatic Firebirds used the #13 heads also.

#13 heads came on the YS 400 in 1970 . This was the 350 HP engine. This was for the automatic transmission cars (GTO) #12 heads came with the manual transmission cars and the RA III with the auto transmission.

My 1970 GTO has #12 heads and it is a RAIII car with a Th 400 Tranny. A friend of mine has a 70 1/2 Trans Am with the RAIII and he also has #12 heads and his is a 4 speed

There is a guy in town here who has a 70 Judge (original 11000 mile car) I called him and he did say some RAIII cars had #13 heads.

His has an automatic trans and has #12 heads.

The 13s were most often found on AC cars.

#12 heads is for 1970 400 M/T and RAIII engs.
#13 heads is for 1970 400 A/T engs.

1970 A-F RAIII engs. used the same codes, YZ and WS, and therefore the same #12 heads.

My 1970 Trans Am (4-speed) has 13s on it, but does not have the origianl WS block, has a 1971 YS block. I was told that the original owner blew up the motor and then swapped everything off of the RA III onto the 1971 YS block. However, I'm not sure if I bleieve this. My carb is a 7040270, not a 273, so I'm not sure now whether or not the 13s that are on the motor are the same ones that the car was built with. Car does not have AC.

I have a set of 12s with a matching intake that I plan on putting on a WS blcok, if I can ever find one.

I firmly agree with the above #12's were for manual and RamIII 1970s. #13's were for automatic 400/350hp automatics.

Also, I know a couple people who have flow tested these heads and found no real difference between the two. However, if you're going for correct, your ramIII should have 12s

I have never seen a RAIII goat with #13 heads... so far just on your RAIII Birds

My 70 Judges I have ever owned (All Canadian built) had #12 heads and were M40's
If I remember rightly the bible says 13 heads are for Firebirds only not GTO's

The concensous is that 12's were used on all 70 WT manual trans GTO's and ALL RAIII's. 13's were used on YS automatic GTO's. Never seen an original documented car any other way.

The only thing I'm not sure of is the 13's that some claim to be on RAIII auto T/A's. I'm not really anyone with great knowledge on the f-bodies...
I just helped a friend rebuild his numbers matching 70 T/A motor, RAIII, auto, A/C car, it had 12's.
