John,

It will be a 477" w/F2 and either a 477" or 535" N/A. I already have a complete 477" rotating assembly for N/A, but the extra cubes are enticing, LOL!

I have a 4" Moldex billet and a 4.5" forged crank in my inventory, block is 4.350" bore

Allright guys, looking to move the tires in and drop the car abit this summer. I have found that the rims i want are available with 6'' BS 15x10. Is this too much? would 5.5''BS be better? I want to run either 295/315/325 MT drag radial depending on what will fit best. I prefer to go to 30'' diameter. I dont mind having it jacked alittle but want to drop it about 2'' from present height.

http://www.putfile.com/album/191364

I plan on moving shocks inboard, tub, relocating the rear mount of the springs and narrowing the fuel tank. I will narrow the rear if needed but not until winter. I have welder, torch, etc. so i will be doing all the work.

Anybody running 6''BS or is 5.5BS the max?

I'm not sure if you can run the tires you listed on a car without mini-tubs, moving the springs/shocks inboard, and trimming the quarter lips. My car isn't much reference, to back spacing, as my rearend housing is 1.5" narrower or .75" each side than the original rearend. BUT I had to run .5" spacers on each side to keep the tire off the spring! My leafsprings are in the factory location.

With the mini-tub, relocated spring/shock, and trimmed quarter lip I think you can run between a 12.5-13.0" "Section Width". My car has a mini tub and inboard shocks but it's tight to fit the 11.1" section width BFG 275/60/15's. On my car the tire would hit the leafspring way brfore it will hit the factory frame. I'm going to try trimming my quarter lips and hopefully fitting the M/T 29.5/9.0/15 slicks w/stiff sidewall. (Section width advertised 11.3-11.4). Fingers crossed!

Honestly, it will take some work to get a 12.0" or larger section width to fit. IMHO JD

From what i understand moving the shocks, springs and minitubbing then leaves the frame as the next issue. I also will not be running it at stock height, it will sit higher just not sure how much. Stock shackle is 4'' i think and i run an 11'' now, wanna cut that down abit. I also have some re-arched springs. I am sure i can fit it, just depends on what height.

What rims and BS do you run?

If you are going to run a 295 or larger tire, the less backspace the better. I run a 15x10 with 5.5 BS, to mount the wheels I have to either unbolt the rear shocks and let the rear down or deflate the tires. The problem is getting all that backspace over the calipers, but I can live with it as I like the "neutral" look of the wheels versus the centers sunk in with a wide outside lip. My car is lowered to the point the wheel well lip shows about an inch of tire above the rim.

FWIW

Thanks for the tip on the BS. I have drums, shouldnt be as much of an issue (may change in the future though). I too like the neutral look. I cannot remember the last time i had the tires off, haha. I think i will pull one tonight and do some measurements.

I dont think mine will sit near as low as yours. I hope to have about 1'' of tire hidden by the well or top of the tire even with the well.

OK, here is what I know and have learned.

Here are the specs when I bought my car. Stock width rear, 15 x8 x 5.5bs, frame sectioned, springs moved in 1 1/4",shocks moved, stock width tank, 295/65 tire. The tire rubbed on outer sidewall when rear would load up from running spool. Also if anybody got in back seat it would rub.

Mods I did-- narrowed rear 1.5" each side,
moved springs in 1 3/4" each side(total not additional), total space 14" , wheel mounting surface is centered at 7", with a 5.5bs the tires contacted the leaf spring ( i had never thought of this when measuring for rear to be narrowed), 1/2" of spacers provided clearance, I changed to a 4.5bs rim 15x8.

In addition, narrowing the rear created conflict with the 3" tailpipes. I narrowed gas tank 3" per side becuase that is what most companies offered for minitubbed applications. It cost me 475 to have an oem tank narrowed. I would either only narrow it 1.5" per side OR buy a tank from Rick's Hotrods. My tank now only holds about 10 gallons.

Even though there is 14" of tire space, you can not use it because of the leaf springs. A ladder bar suspension would allow the use of all the space. It is still a major PITA to take the rear tires off, have to jack car up and put jackstands as high as they go and let tires hang. Then reposition jack under rear to allow you to remove tires.

I have said this before, buy the rim and tire combo you want to run and narrow rear accordingly. I want to run a 10" wide rim and right now I can't.

This is the most recent picture. Car is not strapped down. I know the PS tailpipe is screwed, it is because I had to "clearance" it for the tire.

Hmm, i will have to sort through that for awhile and take some measurements. I plan on buying some 15x10 but not sure how far to go with the BS. If they are not enough i will narrow whats needed. Gotta remember i have about 2'' between tire and lip right now so i could run it like that without some of the issues you guys have being lower. I hate to take it out of commision now but would like the wider tires (cant get traction on the street). This winter i can tear it apart and do whatever but right now not so much. I may just leave it till winter, not sure.

I will take some pics and measurements and see where that leads me. I am trying to find some rims/tires for mockup before i spend a bunch.

At some point I will upgrade to a 9 inch at that point I'll get 10" rims with with X BS and get to all fit accordingly.

It was a much much longer process that I thought, after running parts around, buying parts, painting, cleaning etc etc it took 3 + months for the rear end project to be finished.

NOTE: I ordered stainless brake lines from inline tube, he took 1.5" out of each side at the most linear portion of the set. Fit very nice.

Default '74 Pontiac Ventura Tire Size

I am 17 yrs old, and bought a 1974 Pontiac Ventura. I would like to restore it to be all original again. The guy I bought it from didn't know much about cars and rigged it up very poorly. I am trying to find out what size tires are supposed to be on it. I've been told by many people that it should have 14's but it currently has 15's. Can anyone help me with this, please. I'll take any other suggestions as well.

Here are a few pictures of my '74 Ventura. It needs a lot of work, but I'm determined to make it nice again.
