I've been all over that site and talked to a few guys on the subject but no real useable pics for the decal on the sprint. I guess I'm trying to get someone to post a pic of the decal only so I can actually see it and scale it, thats the hard part. try enlarging any of the pics posted of a entire car to get the decal enlarged and you will see it will be barely legible. thanks for trying, i'm not giving up yet!!! Sprintfrk73,

I have an orginal '73 Sprint in the drive way. If you're having a ton of trouble I could try to round up a digital camera and take a few pictures for you. Let me know if you can't find anything and I'll see what I can do.

Good luck,

Aaron

hey Q, at this point any good feedback on this subject is a good one, a ton of trouble, to say the least, I wasn't aware of the difficulty on finding parts for these cars but I am not disappointed in my purchace, I can't find a sprint in s/e michigan or I would go to it and take some kind of copy of it myself, I haven't seen one since I sold my 1st one 20 years ago. So to say the least any thing some fellow enthusiast can help with will be greatly appreciated. Greg

Is the decal for 73 the same as 74? I think I have clear pictures of the 74 decal. Let me know.

YES, by all means, please send me any pictures of this decal, I've tried modifying pics from that site off your car with poor results, I need a close up for accuracy, ok, yes I'm picky but aren't we all when it comes to our rides? Welcome to the board, you will find alot of good info here... send to pittmang63@comcast.net

The 73 and 74 decals are the same! I ended up painting mine on laying the base color down and then taping off the stripes and then making a stencil for the word SPRINT! It turned out nice, I did a rubbing of the word on paper and then used contact paper for kitchen cabinets to make the stencils! I would think if you can get the scale and a tracing anyone with a vinyl lettering business should be able to duplicate them! Have you tried the major graphics companies yet? I could talk you through getting them ready to be painted on, it was time consuming but, not that difficult!

If the saleman wasn't standing there, we all could get a better perspective.

Don't you wish you could go back in time and buy one new?

Unless you plan on buying a bunch, you are either gonna pay a lot or not even get a printer to deal with it. The set up time will be costly.

There is a fellow in the forum goes by SWEETJUDGE (See the Judges only section). He is passionate about Pontiacs and owns a printing business.

I would check with him to see if he could help you out!

thru all my research, that has been extensive, i have never seen a sprint stripe in a single form, they are always double and there is only 4 part #'s for these. these being the 4 color combo's you described. i bought a stripe on ebay that has never been applied and the width of the stripes vary on the whole length of the stripe, meaning it is different widths at different points on the stripe making it very hard to copy. if you can wait i will try to get a picture of a section to show you what i mean. Greg

from what i've seen from gm in the past, my dad worked at fisher body for over 30 yrs, i wouldn't hold to much faith in gm drawings, or the fact that an option was or wasn't equipped on a car. back in those days you could get a car ordered almost any way you wanted with or without some options added or deleted. as for the 74 stripes i couldn't explain since i'm not looking for any 74 info as it does not apply to my ride, a 73.

these are actual gm part #'s for 73 3 piece stripe taken from install instruction sheet.

part 1
490362-3 rh-lh stripe (cream-orange)
490368-9 rh-lh stripe (yellow-lime green)
490374-5 rh-lh stripe (blue)
490380-1 rh-lh stripe (black)

part 2
490364-5 rh-lh stripe (cream-orange)
490370-1 rh-lh stripe (yellow-lime green)
490376-7 rh-lh stripe (blue)
490382-3 rh-lh stripe (black)

part 3
490366-7 rh-lh stripe (cream-orange)
490372-3 rh-lh stripe (yellow-lime green)
490378-9 rh-lh stripe (blue)
490384-5 rh-lh stripe (black)

as for the stripe on a non sprint car it would have been very easy for the dealer to get a stripe in 73 since i'm sure they were readily available an put it on a plain ventura. dealerd did alot of strange things back in the day or maybe someone requested it and they put one on, no one will ever know but i'm sure it was not regular practice.
