Yup, 67-69 bird mounts are the same.

Biltit, I'm anxious to see your video, but can't view it on my browser right now. Iron Blu, good idea about the earplugs. If I ever get pulled over for loud pipes, I can offer the cop a pair of earplugs and send him on his way.

I believe they are being repopped and show up in the firebird catalogs. They are the same. IIRC I saw them for $90 or so.

Not exactly hornies, but I have 4" race bullets on mine. The way I built the headers I was able to put the exhaust on the outside of the subframe, with the turn outs it surprisingly quite inside the car. Quite enough to hear the radio anyway.

The motor looks good, I'm sure the car will be more fun to drive after the swap!

Cleaned up and painted the engine bay. Still have more to do with it but the most difficult part is done. Also got started on the shifter. Positioned the shifter where it felt right, then welded some nuts to the floor and secured it with some shortened bolts. Borrowed a large holesaw and drilled a hole in the sheetmetal for the cable to go through.

Mocked up some 428 fender emblems in 2 locations; below the front side marker light where the original 350 emblem was, and the other below the Ventura emblem. I also have some 428 rocker panel emblems, but am debating whether even to advertise the engine at all. What are your opinions?

Made some pads from an old floor mat to help prevent the engine paint from getting chipped by the chain during install. Cut a hole in each for the bolt to go through.

I like the emblems by the marker lights I think it looks cleaner, how did you make them? I want to get some or make some for my little 406.And yes I would advertise it,unless you are trying for the sleeper look, with a 428 on hornies,I dont think anybody gonna believe its a 350 with a loud exhaust, but you never know.

The emblems are plastic stick ons from a Ford store on ebay. These were the closest thing I could find that looked similar to Pontiac emblems. The seller might offer custom number combinations such as 406, 400, 455, etc. http://stores.ebay.com/Ford-Parts-and-Accessories

Interesting discovery under the car today. While putting in the shifter, I found the trans crossmember mounting bolts missing. The only thing that was holding the trans to the car was the engine! Also noted in a previous post, both engine mounts were shot. This might explain why the car would sometimes have an intermittent shake at higher speeds. I had the wheels balanced which helped, but still noticed some shaking. With all new mounts and everything bolted up, the car should feel better at high speed.

Good find! You might want to double chek your motor mounts.

I have found when any one of the three mounts is loose or has too much play, the other mounts suffer very quickly.

Engine install went smooth tonight. Got all the major bolts in place and tightened (ie, 6 engine to trans, 3 torque converter bolts, 2 motor mount bolts, and 12 header bolts). I layed the headers in the engine bay just prior to lowering the engine and connected them 1 bolt at a time while lowering .....easy. I'm pleased with how well these Hooker headers fit. Plenty of clearance everywhere, and they don't hang down very low. There's lots of details left, I hope to have it started in the next day or two.

Hooker Competition #4902, 67-69 Firebird application, 1 5/8" dia, 3" collectors. Since these were not specifically listed for a "Ventura" application, I was concerned how they would fit particularly near the driver side steering box and the passenger side firewall. No problems at either location. The tubes are a little on the small side but read somewhere Jim Hand didn't see any appreciable improvement going from 1 5/8" to 1 3/4". Here's some better pictures.

While you are at this point add a remote oil filter. It will make life alot easier. And cleaner.
