Where are you at on sourcing a correct (or the original) block and/heads?

No luck on the original block and heads. I have a thread on this forum in the missing Pontiac section as well as the missing engine form on Wallace Racing site. Keeping my fingers crossed. I believe it is out there somewhere. Picked up a WS block last summer as the fill in if the original continues to be a no show. It will be correct, just not original.

I recently realized (sorry I haven't memorized my 'Pontiac bible' aka: Pete McArthy book) that there were other years of 400 'WS' blocks - I picked up a '72 'WS' 400 last fall for a steal of a deal...
Was yours at least a '70 model year block?

Please keep up posted - I love these kinds of threads!

Yes, it is the correct 1970 block. This one happens to be the 9799915 variety, originally intended for a RA IV application but used as a Ram Air III. Seems to be a number of WS blocks that were done this way.

I bought my car with a 1970 Firebird 'YZ';
If it's of any consequence, it wasn't ground & restamped as a 915

Sheet metal all fitted and held in place with screws. Next step- weld it all in solid. I love seeing it come back from the dead.

nice work! great to see cars like this being saved. too bad so many languish in the hands of people who will never get to them, but who also resist to sell.

UPDATE:

As unbelievable as it may seem, yesterday morning I received an e-mail from the ex-gf of the previous owner. Turns out she has the original block and heads for this car! She had been holding them ransom against the property of hers that Russ (the previous owner) had never returned to her. I had sent a few pics of the car in progress to this woman's boss and she had seen them. Apparently, that prompted her to decide that the engine block and heads belong with the car. Next week I am driving down to St. Louis to pick them up. Sometimes, there are happy endings! Needless to say, I am still in shock as I was not expecting them to turn up.
