That Firebird could be a 326 HO car. What part of NC? With over 900 cars, there's plenty to go around.

No way 900 cars, maybe 200-250 at most. The yard has been picked over by locals for decades and well known in area. I bought all the tail lights 15 years ago off 68-72 A bodies when he had some nice stuff, bumper core, hood and other parts. Now its waste of time unless you need some small part. We bought all the brackets, trim and misc parts we could get last trip and it wasnt anything to write home about.

A friend from PY, and myself were there few months ago and not much left.

Plus he knows what they are worth and has sold on ebay some of the better ones at high prices, but still pretty bad shape, so good deals are not found with this owner. Dont know who you delt with but owner knew that FB was no HO. Sorry you paid for it, he has been trying to sell it for a while.

Plenty of Goats, the four legged kind though.

I only got to see 2 of the yards he has...never got to the 3rd one but apparently it has a bunch more cars in it. Never dealt with the actual owner , just the guy who is eBaying all the stuff for him. The 68 vert i got , even though it is not a HO, is still a pretty good car to build...still quite buildable and even had floors still in it...under 4" of mud and crud. I found that he was fairly reasonable on price a I bought a bunch of stuff including about 40 rally 2 wheels (always want to buy those) and a bunch of doors and seats. I saw lots of good stuff there but but everyone has different ideas on what is useful I guess.

Default My Rescue

I just rescues 2 '64 tempest customs from over 10 years in a field about a month ago. I got them for $1000 for the pair. They're rough, but one is going to be my resto project. The blue one I'm going to restore, and the white one is my parts car. Some pictures are attached. Oh yea, and the 389 that goes in the blue car (from my 64 star chief)...

There may be title issues with anyone in NC buying cars from the Franklinton yard.

I found the place back in 92 when i first moved to Raleigh. I took a friend there, and he was interested in buying one of the cars complete. The owner refused to sell the whole car because he claimed to have sent the title in to NC DMV as a scrapped vehicle.

If a junk yard sends the title in to NC DMV, the VIN is recorded as "Removed from Service" or something similar to indicate the vehicle has been destroyed. I believe that it could never be titled in NC again. I think there was a financial incentive for the yard to send in the title because it reduced the property taxes they had to pay on the junk cars.

It's possible that the titles weren't sent in on all of the cars. Regardless, you could have some title issues.

I've got a few barn fresh stories...

'73 TA 455 auto near Charlottesville, VA. Had been in the woods for 20 years or so and somewhat banged up but complete except for carb. Got it in 2006 for several hundred $$$ and sold on e-bay to finance other projects.

'69 Judge, RAIII, 4 sp, Antique Gold/Gold near Palmyra, VA. 2 owner car, all original and unmolested except for non-numbers block. Spent last 13 years in a barn. Got it in Dec '05. Runs and drives. Pending resto.

'69 Judge, RAIII, 4 sp, Carousel Red/Black, hideaways, near Lubbock, TX. Missing engine, but otherwise complete. Spent last 12 years in an aircraft hangar. Got it in May '06. Pending resto.

'66 Fairlane Convertible, 289, C4, Pearl River, LA. Straight and solid. Broken leaf spring, so the owner quit driving it 14 years ago and put it in the garage. Heard about it thru a friend. Got it for a song in Dec '05. Runs and drives, but needs paint and interior work.

'66 Chevelle SS396, 4 sp, Aztec Bronze, bronze. VA. Straight and solid. Sat in a barn for the last decade and had just recently been pulled out and was in the owner's driveway. Owner lived on a busy highway and was getting tired of people bugging him, but I made him a reasonable cash offer and he took me up on it. Got it in spring '06. Runs, drives, needs resto.

'71 GTX 440, 4 sp w/pistol grip, air grabber, Dana 60, outside Washington, DC. Off the road and hadn't run in 20 years. 2 owner car with 68k original miles. Got it in spring '06. Runs now. Needs paint, but otherwise complete.

They're still out there....

Scott

Yeah, I got on a bit of a roll - actually bought 8 cars from December 2005-June 2006, most near Charlottesville, VA. Sold two to finance the rest.

I'm at home in Louisiana on leave from Iraq for another week or so. Haven't bought anything yet, but I've got leads on a few interesting cars...

Stay safe when you get back to Iraq Scott, so you can tell us about the next bunch you find and buy when you get back home again.
