Both belts attach the same..Both chromed ends have 2 letters and several numbers stamped on them. I can't make them all out.

I agree! The male end on the '64 standard belts is noteably different than than the '65 standard belts. How hard is it to keep track of only two different styles??

Here's GR8 1's belts. June Pontiac unrestored car. Interestingly, the tongues on his belts have a different shape than any of the others posted. Now there's three types?

Bill, I thought I'd throw in a bit of information I recently found. The belts you show are the "basic" belts. Please see the flyer below which explains the difference and how seatbelts were ordered, prior to becoming standard equipment.

Hope this helps your appeal to the Judge. Chad.

My April KC Built GTO was built with Irving Air Chute, (no logo on the buckle) Airline Seat Style Buckle parts with retractors.

My '64 was a Pontiac plant build ordered April 22, 1964. The seat belts were the standard ones at $11.01 as you can see from the invoice attached.

I remember they were the ones from the parachute company with chrome or stainless ends, both the male & female ends. There was no plastic cover over the buckle. They look most like the pictures that Andre' posted.

I don't know where you got that seat belt order form, but this is finally the documentation that has been needed to back up what I have been saying about '64 belts for the last many years.
Not only does it validate the fact that two styles were available, but also that they were available for all models.
Of the 4 colors mentioned, I have owned or seen- black, blue, light tan, and red.
It is unfortunate that this fact has eluded the judges of POCI and GTOAA. One can only surmise how many other "facts" are really fallacy.

Andre, TOO MANY judges have the mindset that "it was only this way from the factory"
and have made mistakes of CORRECT cars for years.

Another awesome piece from 64woodwheel!

Was this from the "Salesman's Catalog"?

It is obviously so early that the Sales Code 411 wasn't yet on the Order Form!

Dick, your order pricing is confusing. I wonder if your Dealer played some price games?

The Car List Prices in '64 were full dollar amounts. The Hardtop was priced at $2556. This was $11 more than prior to Jan 1, the $11 increase was for the addition of the standard seat belts as standard equipment content.

Yet, your order paperwork appears to show $2596.00?

Did they hose you for $40.00?

Since Seat Belts were already standard content, the Custom Seat Belts were reduced from $18.29 to $7.53, the previous price for the Standard Seat Belts being $10.76.

So I'm not sure if they hosed you for another $11.00 for Seat Belts that were already priced into the Base Price of the car?

The $75.00 charge for "3.90 with special equip." gears is usually $37.66 for the Metallic Linings and $37.66 for Safe-T-Track from Window Stickers I've seen, so looks like you might have "saved" a few cents there. There may have also been an extra charge for Heavy Duty Radiator and Heavy Duty Fan associated with the 3.90 axle (the gear choice itself was no extra charge). Not sure if that was only to get the close ratio trans or all 3.90 geared GTOs.

But I just find it a bit funny if they gigged you for some "pure profit" when they wrote up the order. You think you can go back and get a refund??!!

Out of curiosity, did you actually trade something for it or was $378.45 the discount off list? Probably got a "fair" deal at the end of the day.

Thanks, John. Yes, this was in a '64 Pontiac Sales Manual. Occasionally Pontiac would send out updated information or additional pages for the Sales Manual. They called these "Releases". There were 15 Releases that I am aware of for the 1964 Model year. The seatbelt flier was printed 9/63. The first release for the Sales Manual is dated Sept. 27, 1963. The purpose of the release was to provide 1964 Pontiac Accessory and Optional Equipment Price Sheets. Release 2 (announced in the same letter) was to provide the 1964 Pontiac Accessory Catalog. This is the familiar "1964 Wide Track Pontiac Accessories" blue brochure. I don't think the seatbelt flier was part of an official release, just something that was sent out to the dealers around the same time.

I also have a letter from A L Drury, Parts and Accessories Manager, Dated Nov. 13, 1964 to all Pontiac dealers. The purpose of the letter was to encourage the salespeople to sell and the parts dept. to stock rear seatbelts. Included with the letter is an order form that has part numbers and prices for all available colors of rear seat belts for the 65 model year (Pontiac and Tempest).
