Well,I took the engine out of the circle track car and inspected it after last season of racing in circles. everything looked great! All that was needed was the over head set. I didn't need to take the engine out for that, I know, but I wanted to make sure that the engine would make it thru the next season. I still make the roller bearing cam plate if any are interested. Price is up a bit to $220 plus shipping.

Thanks....

Is this better than Butler's step design bronze bushing (the web site claims less wear on the plate because of the bushing)?

Junkyard dog....I personally think its better. Mine gives you a roller bearing on both sides of the plate. It controls camshaft end play with those bearings. Its also is oiled using the factory oiling system with no mods to the block or cam.

JunkYard Dog, my feeling is that the Sims Performance roller bearing cam plate is superior to the bronze bushing. I agree that the bronze bushing will decrease friction between the cam gear and thrust plate, but you still have the same friction between the cam and thrust plate. If memory serves correct, the cam tends to ride forward (toward thrust plate) under acceleration and rearward (toward rear of block) on deceleration. I do not believe the bronze bushing will improve friction or wear characteristics on acceleration. The Sims Performance setup provides roller bearings on both sides of the thrust plate which will decrease friction on both accel and decel. Food for thought...

How many people are running these. Has there been any issues with them. Im interested in one but it would go on a car that sees some miles and the last thing Id need is for it to come apart.

I have one on the engine going to the dyno this month. Straight forward installation. Good quality pieces.

So am I correct in my understanding that this setup controls front and rear movement? So true cam endplay can be set. Not relying on the rear cam galley plug or the stock retainer plate for end to end movement.

If so, I will be contacting you very soon as I am about to install a solid roller cam in my engine.

Pontiac Jeff...Yes it does control endplay both ways. When we dyno tested this concept, we concluded that this control helped in the HP gain that we saw on the dyno pulls. So it was probably a friction reduction and controlling the timing @ WOT that helped with the gain.

Slowbird.....I have sold 25 sets to date. With only one complaint. That was...And Iam ASSuming here...was with a setup that might have not been oiled correctly. The setup was with a roller bearing cam where the roller bearing replaced the standard cam bearing. In doing this .... you block off the oil passage going to the cam beaings and rely on "splash" to oil the roller bearing and this works. But, My setup relies on the oil supplied to the No.1 cam bearing for oil to the bearing in the cam retainer plate torrington bearings. It is a positive oiling system with oil being pumped through the bearing for positive oiling. When you use roller bearings for the cam....This positive oiling is lost. there is a way to correct this, but it is unproven so far.
Again, I run this setup in a circle track car with Absolutly no problems.

Thanks ....Scott

So what all has to be done to run this? Would I have to send my gears to you to get fitted? What does the $220 include?

Slowbird...If you want... you can send me your cam gear(sprocket) and I'll machine it for you and send it back with all needed to reinstall on your engine for $150. $220 is for a complete new kit. So if you want ...I'll machine your gear, no problems. Please include about $10-$15 dollars for shipping back to you for a total of $160-$165 depending on where you live from zip 47232

Thanks...Scott

Hi Scott,

I am interested in one of your timing chain sets.

After throwing away numerous cam retainer plates that were too chewed up to re-use, its time to step up.

Looks like an excellent product, I can't believe nobody else thought of this years ago!

9 hp and 10 ft lbs of torque is amazing, its a win - win deal.

Do you have any sets in stock?

Todd
