I am puting a 455 in a 59 Catalina. I have a 400 tranny that needs to be rebuilt. I will be pulling the 389 and the cast iron auto out.

If I am not mistaken a 400 can have 3 different tail shaft lengths. If I can avoid cutting and rebalancing the drive shaft and getting close with the tail shaft length that would all be good. The 400 I have is short.

Has anyone done this with a 59-61?. Frame rails should be the same.

I know I could measure the existing tranny and 389 to get an idea. I would think the 455 and the 389 engine mounts in the same area.

Any help is great.

It isn't very expensive to have a driveshaft shortened. It really isn't that expensive to have one made if you supply all the yokes and crosses. Cory
