Just so we can get an idea regarding the kind of steal this was, are we talking cuffed and released, or are we talking risk of flight, bail set at 1 mil?

I have a rusty 70 lid off a factory gold GTO; if you want it, it's yours. Chris started the free parts between Pontiac brothers, and I say we just keep that rolling. But by the looks of your trunk lid, you have the better piece already.

I know my cousin has one that he might sell, and Steve Phillips 918-745-0784 has one for sure at $200 with what he described as minor rust repair.

The secret Junkyard in Muskogee has two 70 ish Lemans and one 70 GTO, I can hook you up there too if wanted.

Everyone says good look on the hood, I was afraid of that.

My cousin has a 72 Lemans that looks identical to the naked eye, I had a 71 GT-37 that was to the naked eye identical to the 70. But like the hood thing some one mentioned, very possible some of the under bracing was different.

Here is some of the numbers that were on the engine parts, I think you'll find some of this interesting and breaks some of the rules of thumb:

Block--cast date E220 (with a cast 70)casting 9799140 EUN C044720(I say C because that's what it looks like) YE serial number 21P103624

Water pump housing---482883

Heads--- 197(1)

Intake 483674 dated 7-30-70

Fan clutch-- 477957PC H21A blades 9796134

Exhaust manifolds---RH 9799721 G060
LH 478141 date cant be read
Lower pulley--- 481037YA

Upper pulley--- 481040XT

Alternator nor readable

Distributer--- 1112073 OH18

Starter 1107365 7F9 (probably wrong)

Oil filter adapter--- 5579457

Cowl tag 71 24237 PON006525
Trim 261 13 13 Paint
O9A

A big 1PQ stenciled in aqua on the tranny

Engine is at the machine shop, body is off the frame, tranny is being rebuilt. I have to install a '70 1/4 before I begin blasting the body, need my rotisserie. I can't wait to get busy with it though.

Anybody want to relocate and restore cars for a living, I have enough to keep me busy for 10 years.......DW

Love the pull apart pics, too cool.

Practice the stripe rust test on one of those panels.

Dr-Doug, just thought I'd tip my hat to you...what would normally have taken me (and I'm sure alot of ppl here) at least a few months to do (and decide to even tackle it) you do in a few days...I call this Passion to the power of 10! Keep up the great work and hope it ends up just the way you want it...

FYI Chris I am now enjoying SA Brown Ale while wrenching on the GTO, a small favor you didn't call me an hour before I got off today bragging about your second one.

Nice!

I worked right until 6 - then picked up the kids.

The worst thing about working for yourself, there is nobody's office I can walk into and say I quit!

I'll give you a call tomorrow.

Great start! Looks like a matching drivetrain too. Can the hood and trunk lid be saved with some metal work?

Any chance for pictures of the frame where the VIN stamped on the top of driver side rear, and also the frame is stamped with a date code on side in same area. Marking are unique to a 455 frame I understand. Other pictures I would like to see are the valley pan and if there are any part numbers?

Best of luck with the project as the tear down has begun.

Engines at the machine shop so I can't get a number for you off the pan right now. Did you notice the cast date of the block and when the car was produced, interesting huh, 4 months... But here's the frame....Happy 7-7-7 day boys ...DW

Here's some side-by-side shots to show what Lloyd's talking about (taken at recent GTOAA Nats). See circled areas ...

A short time later they utilized the 483677 block followed by the 485428 that carried through 1972.
Also, there were a few design changes to the under-structure of the 1970-72 decklids. 72's are by themselves!

How far is your place from the Canada border ? lol

Your new shop looks/sounds ideal. Are you going to perform frame off "gang restoration" on 2-3 cars at once, or knock these down one at a time ?

I didn't know about the little difference between 71 and 72 Hoods. I'll check the one I have next week, for finger reliefs.
