Purchased in 1968...How early were the orders placed for Judges (I know we've talked alot about the earliest built Judge, but I haven't seen how early one could order one)?...Also, looks like std GTO grilles too...PHS is definitely a MUST here....

I looked at the car about two hours ago. Its a pretty nice original car. One small bit of rust on the passenger side fender down by the door (half-dollar size) - Rear window appears to be leaking - either the seal or rust through in the channel - package try has water damage in both bottom corners. Otherwise, it appears to have benefited from our so cal climate.

170k miles. Car was family owned - came west when it was about 5 years old. Has original bill of sale. I'll post pics tomorrow when I get home.

Carousel red and parchment - boy does that get the gto lover's blood pumping. I made what I consider to be a reasonable offer, but -- there's a lot of rich people in LA who might throw money at him. I've blown so much money on these cars, I just can't chase another one into silly money territory.

thanks for the report, getmygoat. Pics will be interesting to see. Did your offer have a contingency clause that INcluded the fuzzy seat covers and the bag of yarn?

Here are some pics - what do you think is a reasonable price for the car? assuming #'s matching? - The carb is not original.... Its an early judge, so it doesn't have the judge logo on the glove box.

I didn't verify the numbers on the car - it appears original and I wasn't equipped for a deep dive - If on the odd chance he accepted my offer, I'd need to confirm with PHS and engine/trans codes etc first.

The car was purchased in late '68 in New Jersey per bill of sale. Owner claims it went around the country on a promotional tour before ending its trip in NJ where it was purchased. So - in theory - it could be judge #1.

Agreed ! Much better in the daylight. I'm looking to be in the market for an auto 69 Judge...something like that would just be a stunner. Clean it and drive it.

Somehow, I'm digging the whitewalls on Carousel Orange Judges.... I must be gettin old lol.

Ok, you know I'm going to comment on this.

I have never seen a Judge built earlier than 1B--in January. And Judge production did not start until January--at least that's what everyone says.

From memory I think bill of sale was December 1968. If this really was a promo car - I suppose its possible it won't even say judge on the PHS? Maybe they just pulled a regular GTO off the line, painted it carousel red, put the wing on it, and started the promo tour?

Anyone know Jim Wangers welll enough to see if he can remember when/where the promo cars were built and where they finished their tour? New Jersey makes some sense given the advertising industry is centered in NYC.

Looks like a pretty nice car, I would say it is a survivor. Clean it and drive. I think the car is worth at least $30k, most would not sell it for less. It's fun to think it could be bought for less, but my guess is that it can't.

I guess this could be interesting--probably a Baltimore car, unless such a promo was directed in the Pontiac plant. EDIT--It has the early ram air cable connector--it is a Baltimore car.

Maybe the PHS will say something unusual on it--might make it more collectible if not a "real" Judge.

The PHS and info from the data plate would give us some interesting info possibly.

...last year I purchased a 1 lady owned '69 Judge, 40K miles, matching everything, 4-spd...parked for 37 years in her garage just a few blocks from my house...I had known of the car since it was new

...a few minor dings, virtually no rust, interior almost perfect, tons of paperwork, had it running in a couple of days, drives like new...already in 2 magazines...I paid $25K

The good deals are definitely had through networking.. once it hits the free market, the value goes up. (Awesome Judge BTW)

I think $30k is too much for the car - I'd rather go to Barrett Jackson and buy a done one for $65k.

If you pay $30k for the judge, just the sales tax and registration is another $3k.. not a cheap hobby.

Cool car. The body looks very straight, but with 170k miles it's probably pretty tired. I don't think it's worth over 25k.

All this leads to the question. In today's economy (not ebay). What would be a real world $ for a survivor Ram Air III Judge like the one in this thread. OR... say a semi restored one maybe with a non original engine?

Maybe 20/25k ?
