Those are some great cars! The 72' Grand Safari is my favorite- you have a nice one there. The 71-73 Grand Safari's, as well as the 71-73' Caprice Estate's are my favorite old wagons. That green on brown is a great color on your wagon and the woodgrain option is just another plus.

Did your 75' Grand Safari originally have the woodgrain option? Appears that it did. I also notice it has the 3rd seat option.

The 71' GV sedan is cool, as is the hearse.

Nice collection there.

I thought so. Are you going to put woodgrains back on?

Seems like it was a nicely optioned car.

That 72 Grand Safari is amazing. One of my favorite cars. The color combo is also great. If I recall correctly, in my 1972 Pontiac sales brochure, there is a wagon just like yours on the "wagon" page, (Grand Safari with the same colors too) but I do not think it has the wheels - it has the standard hubcaps, but I think it is a 9-passenger. A lot of people get confused with the Pontiac wagons. They think that the woodgrain models are automatically "Grand Safari" wagons, but that is not so. Woodgrain was an option on the Safari and Grand Safari. I think woodgrain was not standard on these until 1987 if I am correct.

There is a old lady here with a 72' Caprice Estate wagon that I am trying like crazy to get, but she will not sell. I know of someone else that wants it just for the engine. No way I will let that happen!

I have not seen inside of it, but it supposed to be extremely highly optioned: Automatic climate control A/C, power windows, power locks, cruise, tilt, am/fm 8-track, power seat, power rear gate (window too, but that was standard as you know), 3rd seat, luggage rack, rear defog, Corvette wheel cover option, and most importantly, the 402 engine option. It is brown with woodgrain and about 15-20 years worth of dust on it, as it has been setting in the garage for at least 15-20 years or more. Still has bias-ply tires. I have asked her time and time again - she said that she is not "ready" to sell. She drives a brand new Cadillac - that sets outside. She also has a 75' Cadillac Sedan DeVille in the open garage with the wagon, but it was finally covered up.

hey.
yes it is like the one in the pics from sales brochure, but mine is a saddle interior. the one i pic is green. i added the rallies.

i might get the woodgrain back on, have some nos, but it may be cheaper to just repaint it. i was thinking that burnt orange metallic color. that's a long way off anyway!

i hope you can grab that 72 caprice wagon. sounds cool. at least she is taking care of it. talk to ya!

Default 72 catalina converible

just started work on a 72 cat convertible. low option, just the way i wanted.
power steering and brakes. that's about it. i am looking for some quarters and fenders, maybe some oddball stuff, if anyone has any leads it would be appreciated. other car is a 64 GP
loaded, 4 speed, 421, HO, tri power, power windows ,air, AM/FM, trunk light
eight lugs, posi, reverb, reading lamp, mirrored visor, tilt wheel. fun car, but lots of stuff to keep working. it was nice to look under the catalina hood and have some room to work. thank's for the outlet, tom.

Thanks for that link! I do not need any parts, but I was wanting to see what was there. It appears that his 73' Grand Ville (parts this car came from) was the exact same color as mine. All of the parts look excellent- including the dash. I wonder why such a nice car was parted out? Unless it was wrecked on the side, because there are parts from the front and back of the car.

I would like to see what the car looked like before. It also appears that the car had the cornering light option.

This '71 Safari was posted in the for sale section: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...%3ASS%3AUS%3A1

An interesting thing I noticed is that it has a two spoke steering wheel...I used to have a '71 Cat and it had a three spoke wheel; up until now I thought they all had that wheel. Was the two spoke standard and the three spoke an option?

Thats neat - I did not know that it lingered into 1973 as well. I thought they all had switched to custom cushioned 3-spoke by 1973. But thats right, the custom cushioned was only standard on Bonneville and Grand Ville. Not sure, but was it also standard on the 71-72 Catalina Brougham? It is in my sales brochure, but I do not know where it is at this time.

Here is something interesting. For 1971-72, ALL of the full-size Chevrolets (Biscayne, Bel-Air, Impala and Caprice) had a 2-spoke steering wheel and was the plastic wheel, rather than the "custom cushioned" wheel. Whats more, they ALL had a black steering wheel and steering column, no matter the interior color, even on the top of the line Caprice, but this was not the case for 1970 and back, even on the plain-jane Biscayne. My 69' Caprice has a color-keyed wheel, with a woodgrain center, but it is plastic too. "Cushioned" wheels not available on the Chevrolets until 1973. However, by 1973, they had all switched over to "custom cushioned" as standard, even on the entry level Bel-Air if I recall correctly, but was still the black wheel and column remained on the Bel-Air and Impala for 1973, but Caprice added the color-keyed wheel and column.

However, for 71-72, the Caprice did have a woodgrained center if I recall (its been a while since I had mine) and it had "Caprice" script in the hub area to the right side.

I think it is strange that Pontiac kept this "hard plastic" wheel a year beyond Chevrolet on their full-size models, considering the Pontiac was a "higher end" car.

Just picked up a 71 grand ville that was listed as a 71 bonneville Memphis TN on collector car trader .com
a/c, power seats, ps, pw,rear window defrost, cornering lights (left side is broke so i'm looking for one), courtsey lights, tow package, posi ( probably 3.08), CB 8-track stereo, trunk release in glove box, bumper guards front and back, vinyl top, shoulder belts, there maybe more I'm going to get the build sheet out. I was told it would be behind the door panel.

The car is Brown metalic with a goldish green tint to it with rootbeer brown loop carpet, headliner, and seats but the dash is tan. I'll get some pictures up soon.

Thanks Eric, I got the car for $1500 although it was listed for $2500. By the way I admire your collection. I have 2 1971 Grand Ville's and a 1973 Grand Ville conv.
I dont know if you have seen but on the classical pontiac site there is a 1974 Grand Safari with 47k and is radio delete. Says he wants 3K.
I wish I could afford that 71 4dr you got. I almost got that green one that went on ebay. Oh well another one will pop up. Also you wouldn't happen to have a cornering light bezel?

sounds like a steal to me. i would have to see if i have one of those cornering bezels. i can't afford any other cars right now too. my 70 gp is going to be finished soon, so money is not htere for another toy.
i am going to sit on that 71 i have for sale. price is high, but there has been a lot of love and care, time and money in that car. i have to put on a new POA valve. i am realistic, and i know that no one is too hot for those cars.

send me a pic of that part if you can, thanks, eric

Might as well make my first post about my car, right?

My car is a '71 Pontiac Bonneville 2 door hardtop, equipped with 455 2bbl, TH400, originally in a dark metallic green(though I am still unsure of the actual color name, and hoping to get some help on this - It may be Laurentian Green Iridescent?).. It has a matching green interior and had a green vinyl top.

My options go as follows:
Power windows, power locks, power seat, tilt steering column, am radio, door edge guards, side protective mouldings, door courtesy lights, driver's remote outside mirror, deluxe wheel covers(not sure on this one?), vinyl top, A/C, auto-climate control A/C.

It does not have a passenger door mirror. I have lights for oil, water and amp. I do not have a trip odometer or KM readings on the speedo(not sure what year they started this, thought I'd throw it in just in case, since I picked up a complete gauge cluster from a '76 Bonneville Brougham that has all 4 gauges as well as a 100mph speedo with KM readings).

That's all the pertinent info I can think of at the moment, but I will add to this should I remember anything worthwhile.
