Were the 72 Ram Air Ducts on the hood painted black from the factory or are they supposed to be body color?
I have seen them both ways. Dan

Dan,
The '71 Judge hood scoops were black. All the rest of '71's used body color scoops. I believe that carried over to '72 as well. Also took a look at several original fender vent screens & they all appear flat black-gray...actually faded out looking. I doubt you should have any problem going back satin black. Have taken a ton of pic's of original & restored '71 & '72 GTO's most with RA. I need a scanner & we could compare pic's...Roger [ April 18, 2002, 02:02 PM: Message edited by: ol' Pinion head ]

Thanks for the info Roger. I was thinking satin or semi-bloss black. Maybe even 60% black. Someone mentioned that I should use clear as a last step. The clear over the black would also make it more durable and easier to keep clean.

Dan and oPh:
According to a good friend of mine who is a detail fanatic, the non-Judge '71 and all '72 hood scoops should be painted body color. However, he also says that the vertical supports or separators at the rear edge should be painted black. I'm gonna try to research this more. Later, Lloyd
