when i purchased my 70 GTO (400) i was told that the previous owner when he had the motor rebuilt didnt have some part installed in the oil pan or block which directs the dipstick end to it's proper spot, thus i can never get a proper reading, does this make sense? is there such a part, or was i had, thanks.

There are two pieces that comprise the dipstick tube. There is the part that presses into the block and is what you see on the outside, but there is a small curved piece inside the block. Some of the curved pieces have a bracket that attaches onto one of the main caps, and other models used a curved pice that just pressed into the ond of the other without a bracket.
If you are missing the curved piece, you will have wrong readings and may have interference issues between crank and dipstick. [ April 18, 2002, 09:47 AM: Message edited by: myckee ] |
