I want to convert my original open 3:23 rear to a posi.It is in a 65 lemans with air ,the code on the axle tube is W F .I see people describing these 10 bolts as either 8.2 or 8.5 ? what do I order for this car.The car is all original, whatever rear end is there now came that way from the factory.

Your '65 Lemans came with the 8.2" 10-bolt rear.

Thanks for the quick response B-man,Iwas just checking out these posi units,It looks like auburn is the only one that makes the unit that fits my application,or am I mistaken that I can't put a higher gear than a 3:23 in there?

Eaton Posi now makes one too- #19674-010
You are right about the 3.23 carrier, you can't bolt a higher gear on it unless you use a spacer, probably not a good idea. When you are shopping for a differential make sure it's the B.O.P- Chevys had an 8.2 also that is different. |

If you need an 8.5 to fit your car let me know. I usually have one availible.

Go with the Eaton if you can get it. They're rebuildable. I had to go with an Auburn unit for 3:55's because the Eaton was backordered nationally.
