When the headlights close on my 95 Firebird they make a grinding sound for app. 7 seconds then it quits. Is there an adjustment to the lights ora relay that is bad?

I read somewhere that there are plastic gears that go bad and it will start making that noise.

For a quick fix, albeit temporary, You can disconect the linkage from the motor, spin the motor 180*, then reattach linkage. This uses the opposite side of the gear where the travel stops which is what wears out the gear.
I did this in '99 on mine and so far so good. Its no longer a daily driver but it does get used (and slightly abused, no trailor queen here). I also pull the rubber covers off the manual knobs and spray some lube in the motors occasionally.

I had the same thing happen to my 95 T/A. I took the motor apart and turn the gear and put it all back together. Never had another problem with it.
