There was a post not too long ago on the material type and color well I have been digging through my stuff I found it the convert top frame with the original top and bootwell material it has been instorage 1977 it has been wrapped up so I brought it it I am going to strip the frame but as I do I will document it with pictures as I have with many of the things I have taken apart if anyone would like them let me know . There isn't much left to the material but it is a cloth fabric the layer towards the inside of the car has a plastic layer but that is between the cloth so it looks as though it was a cloth backed vinyl but the side towards the trunk is white the side inside the boot well is bleached out but where it is folded under the window and stapled it is black the top came off a white car with a red interior .just some information from some original pieces I am going to save the fabric for duplication purposes

Mine also is black vinil w/ a white cloth backer. However my top is a replacement. It was replaced in 77'

update :the original boot well has a lower grade smooth vinyl the color of this one was a light tan but the cloth backing was black just like the underside of the convertible top . it was sown together with the cloth side of that vinyl piece towards the inside of the car where the top folds. the reproductions have the same seams but unlike the originals the vinyl faces upward toward the inside of the car and is only one layer . the original has a light fabric that is sown over the bottom which is the vinyle side but has no seams like the upper piece .It is simular to the material streched over the bottom of an over sized chair or lazyboy to cover the bottom side hiding the springs I do have pictures documenting it. this was an original top and had never been changed before .

fourth picture you can see how it was made the upper layer was seamed with the cloth backing up and the second layer was not seamed but covered the whole under side of the bootwell and was attached all around the outer edge

We are going to duplicate the original if anyone is trying to do their car original and is interested in a piece that is closer to original than anything currently available let me know but we have to make one first to see how it comes out will post pics of the new one

Don, My first car was a 1965 LeMans Conv. I remember the bootwell materia being the way you describe it, but I thought that the tan materisl in the trunk side was like a thin rubber material. I can't believe that one of the interior or top people have not reproduced this materiat, but I have never seen it. I hope you come up with something that works and looks right. It will raise the bar on concorse restorations .

Bob ,if you look at the one picture that has the six inch swatch flipped back you can see the tan color coating is defenitly on the under side the cloth back side was up and was black because around the edges where the UV didn't get to it the black color remains .I found a material that has the same or very close to the same weave backing but both sides are black but with the second layer of the white osnaburg ( Spelling ?) which looks very original it's hard to tell the upper layer is black in the trunk side but I will continue to look for the beigh or tan with black backing . 66 and 67 are constructed in a simular fassion . I probbaly should have listed it her before we actually made it but I have thwe original for a pattern to make an exact copy the pictures document to document it .
