I have a Pontiac 400 in my 77 Firebird, I rebuilt the engine and now have it all back together in my car, however I didn't know the shaft from the distributor to oil pump had to be put on with the oil pump! wont go in now, gezzz im an idiot! What can I do- Would shaving off the notches be bad, any risk of it comming out durring driving? or just the next time i pull the Distributor?? Or can the Oil pan be removed enough without lifting the engine???? Please any advice would be greatly appreciated

I`d grind off the notches. You ain`t gonna get the pan off without lifting.
