I am restoring my 70 GTO Conv and have been finding conflicting info on what colors certain items shoudl be painted. The assembly manual I have shows a diagram of a complete finished chassis with all virtually all items painted chassis black. However, my latest issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines there is a whole article about frame resto for a-bodies and it shows many different colors used for axles, backing plates, steering knuckles, etc. Does anyone know which is correct? I want to do my car as correct as possible and any help would be greatly apprecited.
Thanks! |

The May 2000 issue of Muscle Car Review has a four page article on how to paint the chassis of a '70 GTO. Like your Hemmings article, it mentions many colors such as calipers-gray phosphate, dust shield-silver zinc, axle tubes-detail gray.

I think it depends one what plant your car came from.I'd try to find someone on here or somehow that has a unrestored car that you can ask questions to.I've heard of floors painted brown color, some guys says its body color, others say black.Like I said I think it matters what plant it came from.

This might be a good reference point since they restored a 1970 GTO (Judge) convertible. I hear these guys are pretty good at what they do.
