I have a chevy engine that I was told was a 68 327, but casting shows 64-7 327. anyway, I wanted to put an aluminum intake, like a reg performer on it. they list for 55 and up 305-400, but what about the oil filler tube in the front? Looks like it may cover, but my 69 block doesn't seem to bulge out as much in that area. will it fit and what other mods might I need to do? I also want to find a way to get rid of or modify the back breather opening on the back of the block, that tube wraps around the distributor and goes to the original air cleaner I won't be using, it'll just get in the way. can I just make a block off plate and bolt it on?
By the way, it's for a 66 chevy p/u, but I bought it to tow my 68 firebird to the drag strip.

i built a 67 327 not long ago, i used an expansion plug (freeze plug) to block the breather passage and took out the tube inside the block. its not needed if you have your valve covers vented or use a pcv valve and vent, as for the oil filler tube through the intake, its not required unless you just want it there, most newer alum intakes do not have the boss. if not you can use a standard intake with or without the boss for the tube in it and just fill oil through the valve cover. i used a vented oil cap on valve cover and pcv valve on other cover just like newer models, works just fine.also with using that intake on that old of heads you might want to do a lil gasket matching with the head side. the older heads had small runners on intake and exaust side.

327s are starting to get rare. I would E-bay that puppy and get a 350 to build a stout towing engine with. You could even upgrade it to a 383 at reasonable expense.

I have a '67 327 "High Torque". It came from a C-50 dump truck. Dished pisotns, little bitty intake ports. Interesting approach in making low-speed power from an engine that has none...

thanks guys, the freeze plug is a good idea. I thought about keeping the oil tube just for looks to show off the "vintage engine", but I will probably just ditch it for simplicity. but now I will have to either get some new valvecovers or drill out the cast aluminum m/t valve covers that came on it.
