Can someone tell me how large of a slick I can get under a 71 abody with stock wheel wells and what the rim width and back spacing would be? It would be handy to know the flange to flange width that goes with the recommendation. I'm going to measure mine this afternoon ... its a 12 bolt.
Looking for prostars that would fit ... Thanks Steve

have a 68 GTO w/12 bolt ,after installing ford bearing type c-clip elminators on the axle tubes, that made the tubes very little shorter,i don't know how much ,maybe an inch at the most,
so i have hoosier 29"X12" drag slicks on center line 10"wheels with 5"backspacing ,but its a very very tight fit,it rubs the tire walls to the frame sides on lil turns ,but no problems, can hear the squeels with open headers seen lot of other A body cars go to 29.5 mickeys with 11.5 with mini tubs and what not!!!!!

Just chatted with a local race car builder who does alot of stock super/stock cars and he was recommending a smaller tire with a wider rim when its tight. 9" tire on a 10" rim makes sure you've got a good patch versus a larger tire on a narrower rim, especially if you're trying to run high pressures to get ET/MPH. I had a 16.5" tire on a 14" rim with my fast car and it only had about a 14" patch. Wonder if I can fit a 10.5" tire ...???

I run 28x10.5 M/T slicks on the '71 with 15x7 rims converted to 15x8 and splitting the difference - 1/2 inch extra inboard and the other 1/2 inch outboard. They clear just fine.
Probably could have gone to a 15x9 and put 1-1/2 inches inboard, 1/2 inch outboard.
