I purchased a 74 Firbird Esprit about 3 mths ago. My question has to do with the rear shocks. The car has the RTS, should there also be coil springs on the rear shocks? Mine has them and I wasn't sure if this was stock or not. The ride seems very hard.

No, there should not be coils on the rear shocks. The previous owner must have put them on to either compensate for a sagging rear suspension or to raise it up a bit.
