The flywheel on my 455 seems to be missing some teeth. It`s in a `69 Grand Prix. Can I replace it by just dropping the trans and taking off the torque converter? The only times I`ve had to deal with a flywheel was with both engine & trans out of the car.

You can do just what you said. I'm not sure but you may be able to get to it by just taking out the converter and then dropping the flexplate out, but I'm not sure on that.

Old GTO,

That should work. Have a torque wrench on hand to have to torque the flywheel bolts to spec. I clamp a set of vice grips to the flywheel to disable it from turning when breaking loose and tightning these bolts.
