I just got to thinking to myself today about how long it's going to take someone to drop enging/trans/suspension from the new Holden GTO into their origional goat. I've seen the 50s and 60s corvettes with new vette running gear and also old mustangs with new mustang stuff. Personally, I like having pontiac power in mine, but the t56 would be nice. Oh well, just an idea to ponder.

keep your old GTO old school... pontiac motor.

and if you need to buy a new car anyway, buy the new GTO as your daily driver.

can't get better than that.

That's something I'd love to see, an old Goat with new running gear! Or how about a new GTO with a 455, M21 and solid rear axle (with hood scoops)!

Then it would be just another car with an LS1 Now a 455 in the new one would be interesting.....If you want a t56 in your car someone makes a bellhousing to adopt a real Pontiac motor to the tranny.

Putting a 455 in the Holden SS might prove difficult. How about a Pontiac Iron Duke 4 with all the goodies? Weren't they getting about 600 HP out of the race version? At least it would be Pontiac.

A tripower in the new goat would be very cool.

An LS1 in a classic would not!

Kind of like the last diecast I bought, opened the box and the hood to find a corvette badged LS1!

hey aramp1

if you want a t56 six speed, i saw in high perf. pontiac that McLeod is now making them to fit pontiac engines via an adapter plate. haven't had time to look at it yet, but you could check it out.

OK, here's my plan, I'm pulling the previously correctly restored OHC6 & 2 spd. out of my 1967 Red Tempest Ragtop and looking for the first totaled out 2004 model I can find to scavenge everything out of.
Do you think I'm gonna worry about ruining my classic?
Hell no, I'll be building me a HOT-ROD.
A little ol' school a little new school

I wouldnt ruin an old Goat that way but that motor would be bad ass in a Duece Roadster, 3 window or 5 window coupe

Wouldn't this be the same as an old GTO with Camaro running gear? Or Corvette running gear?

You don't need to find a wrecked GTO to do it. Just go on ebay and look for a LS1 out of any F-body or Corvette. Plenty to be had.

Or buy a $600 bare iron block from GM and fill it to make 400cid, LS6 heads and intake and you will have 475hp and you will be able to use the T56 with little issues.

It is very doable. More companies are makeing conversion kits to install those motors in GM A-bodies.

If I get impatient I might go ahead and get a Corvette motor, but I like the Idea of getting a hold of the latest Holden/GTO setup and using as much as possible, not some old hi-school kids clapped out Z-28. Maybe if I could find an SLP Firehawk.
I drove a 1965 GTO to Hi-school. My car is a "Tempest" it's supposed to handle better since it isn't as nose heavy.
I don't really care about being the fastest, I think an LS-1 will be plenty quick enough, and won't be plagued by the quirks of 35 year old technology.
I want tuned port injection and at least 4 different gears. And, I want A/C.

I'll be back...

Would be easy to install the 6.0L from HD, plenty in the bone yards. Has good low end and might even make a little smoke under the tire's!

Oh yeah, I loved my 389, but it was pretty thirsty and the ones I've seen around in the last 10 years or so still have a lot of the same problems.

I like fuel injection, and painless wiring too. A Cruiser that looks like Old School.

Except for a 455, when was the last true "Pontiac V-8" built, or offered? You know you can fit just about anything you are willing to between the fenders of a '67.

Cadillac 500's and Northstars are cool too, but, I'll probably just be happy with an LS-1.

Anybody put a Northstar in one yet?

I'll be back...
