Is there a mounting plate or bracket that the pump is supposed to mount on? My pump has three holes with rubber grommets in them and the car has four holes that obviously don't line up. The pump works fine but it is just sitting there. Shouldn't it be mounted on something? Thanks.

On Firebirds the 3 hole pump mounts on to u-shaped channels - 1 for the front, 1 at rear

Some cars used a three hole pattern - others a four. I've got a '66 convertible and have the wrong pump as well (wrong # of grommets vs holes). I can take a look to be certain which one I have (not installed yet) and if I've got a four-grommet pump - I'd be willing to swap (I can take pics of the pump).

Anyway - the grommets sit in the holes - at least that's what i've been told.

most original factory pumps I've seen have 3 holes. not sure about a 4-hole pump - aftermarket or repro? originally, the pump mounts with the 3 rubber plugs - no bracket. you have to push them into the holes. if the rubber is in good shape just lube them with liquid soap or petroleum jelly and they'll push in with some effort. if not use a blunt rod the diameter of the hole in the top of the rubber plug to insert them

Excactly as Karl said. My 66 has the 3 grommets that match the 3 holes in the trunk well. You DO need to fight those grommets in but it can be done. Good luck!
