I would love hear about some times with factory exhaust manifolds, relatively current times, and not "I had a cousin whose brother in law once had a *#@$#% "........ in other words somewhat recent track results.

Also what the engine, tire & car weight and total combo was:

should make for an interesting subject.
Also John, as in John Glasgo...I know your probably the fastest here. Give the other guys a chance will ya.

OK Gonzo, I'll post first since no one else has yet. I know there are Pontiacs a BUNCH faster than mine running manifolds!!!

WIth an electric fuel pump, more tuning and properly balanced rear tires I hope to perform much better than my best so far of 12.96 @ 104 last June at the '03 PSN's in Dallas. This was with my '72 Formula (see avatar and sig).

Quick rundown on my powertrain:
467 CID, ported 7F6 heads, 4.200 JE pistons, Eagle H-beam rods, 232/235 & .563/.573 solid flat tappet cam, HS 1.65 rockers, stock 455HO intake, SD455 carb, stock fuel system, R.A.R.E. 2.5" outlet manifolds, 2.5" PYPES exhaust system, prototype FullBoar single transverse muffler, TH400, L88 converter, 3.08 posi, 3910 pounds race weight.

Later,
Lloyd

'72 Formula 455 - TH400, 3.08 posi, A/C, Y99, tach & gauges, AM-FM stereo, 8-track, Formula wheel, etc.; Lucerne Blue, Blue Deluxe Int; 12.96 @ 104 MPH @ the '03 PSN's

1970 GTO, 455HO, TH400, A/C, 3.07 peg-leg, AM, tach/gauges, tilt wood wheel & cruise, PDB, P/S, power LH seat, rear defog, etc.; Palomino Copper w/ Sandlewood buckets and Sandlewood Cordova top; All there but in need of resto

Soon a body-off resto will begin on a 72 GTO 455HO, TH400, A/C, etc.; Sundance Orange with Ivory buckets

Back in 94', i had an 84 cutlass with 455 pontiac, lunati braket master cam, performer intake, that went 13.30's on motor, 12.10 with a 125 shot of nos. i had the crappy 2" outlet log manifolds with dynomax mufflers, car weighed 3,350 with me in it. Sorry i don't have anything more current, but i haven't ran manifolds in a long time

69f bird awesome car !

Those long branch manifolds are almost like headers. I was thinking of using those if I ever come across a 68/69' RA bird.

I know about the pure stock results (I posted them!) I was thinking more of the members here.

Best I have been able to do myself is 13.00/ 106
with RAIV 69' Judge 3900lbs. I guess I have a little more tuning to do.

I wanted to see who besides the "Hands" & John Glasgo is running super fast through manifolds.

Lloyd: your car is perfect in almost every sense of the word. Beautiful, Reliable and an ass-kicker.

Hey Gonzo:

Mucho thanks for the compliments!

However, pictures DO hide a lot of little defects, LOL!

Your cars are gorgeous as well, BTW.

As far as VERY fast Pontiacs running manifolds - besides, John AND Paul Glasgo, don't forget about Dan Jensen's '71 455HO T-37. Maybe one or all three of these guys will "stop by" and post to this thread. I wouldn't expect a whole lot of details on their combinations, however.

Talk later,
Lloyd

Another question, GONZO - I can't seem to find any pics of your LS-6 Chevelle on your web page!

This violates your ground rules a little bit as this happened a long time ago. I have been running headers since about 1977. However, in the 74-75 time frame I still had the factory 67 HO manifolds on my 64 GTO. I was running a 400 with a 66 tri-power, a 4 speed and a 4.33 posi. On 8" slicks the car ran 12.65 at 109. In those days there were no intermediate times and no reaction times given. At that time the car weighed 3540 w/o driver and about 3720 race weight.

With a 462 in a 68 GTO,RA manifolds into 2.5" mandrel exhaust, stock 68 intake, q-jet,RAIV/Rhoades,11" B&M,3.55's I ran regular 12.50-.70's at 105-106 on Hoosier Quick Times. On 225/70/14 radials 13.15 @ 105 was my best. Going to 15/8" headers omly improved times by 1&2 tenths. I gained almost that much by removing the power steering and installing a manual box. It really torqued off the Mopar-or-no-car guys when I'd pop the hood and tell them it was the stock original 400 that waxed their Direct Connection soaked 440 Dodge.

Any info from you OMT is appreciated, and I know is valid. Thanks. Good Info.

And yes Lloyd I sold my LS6 to a friend of mine, it has run a 13.27/104 4100lbs.

Dan's a good guy, and will usually answer any questions you may have, but he has a lot on his plate lately, as he is taking over the duties of organizing the Pure Stock Drags for 2004.

Nice TCSGTO.

If you look at the past shootouts from Hi-Performance Pontiac for the past few years. I don't remember more than 1 shootout where someone with exhaust manifolds ran better than 12.80's. I wanted to see what the members here are running and what combo's did it.

Those Builc GS guys on the "stock appearing" class with Gessler(posts here some) hogged out manifolds really fly.You can almost see through the cast iron though!

This is a good topic for me. I have the 2.5" RA manifolds w/2.5" mandrel bent exhaust on my '66 w/455 & tripower. So far, I'm a little disappointed in my high 8sec 1/8th mile times & 2.1 sec 60' times with the drag radials & 3.55 gears. I was considering adding headers this winter but seeing others running these fast times w/manifolds tells me I need to keep tuning before making any more changes to the basic combo.
Funny thing though, Desktop Dyno shows a nearly 40HP gain from going to headers.

goatseeker - It is highly dependent on the cam you have. A tighter LSA will like headers better, and so will larger durations. My 400 became quite restricted when I went from a 224/236 cam to a 244/252. The cam change only netted me a 0.06 second improvement. Then I went to headers and I picked up over 0.3 seconds.

Gonzo,The T-37 went a couple of 12.13,s at 115.00,at the bristol bash, and i know it would easily do 11.9 at the Ohio tracks. My brothers Magnum 400 is still the quickest, with a 12.11. at 114. As far as my combo goes,i will say that it is a stock stroke, with a .040 overbore.I think my combo is maxed out at 115. I did find out i am the only guy running F.A.S.T. with a stock crank.Iam going to pull motor and completely redo it.If a Buick can go 11.3,s,so can my Pontiac .(OK MAYBE 11.6,S)Not to take anything away from Gessler,he is clearly FAST racings most impressive car!

I know John, you are undisputed King of all manifolded Pontiacs. Keep up the great work. You'd be surprised how many people here follow your results. Very impressive and I know you will keep holding up the Pontiac flag.
I have been trying to get some interest here on this board in the F/S and F.A.S.T. racing classes. Maybe you'll have some relief next year.

Nice Job at Norwalk. I know Greg and have spoken to him about various ideas weve both had on the subject of manifolded cars.

Any extra 12.00 second manifolded motors you got laying around? I could sure use one.
