I tried to order a aluminum rad today from PY they tell me Rodney and their other brand are both on back order for weeks. I have a 68 GTO with a auto tranny. Has anyone put a Be Cool Rad into one before. It is advertised as 68-77 part number BCI62008. For $574.99. It is alot of cash. I would like to have an easy install. Any thoughs on this subject. I ran a search for Be Cool's in H&C TECH nothing stood out though. Thanks Joe

I have family in Alameda, cool place. From what i gathered from the Summit Racing and Jegs catalogs, the Be Cool rad was made specifically for the 68 GTO.

I ran into this same situation last month when I wanted to get a Rodney Red radiator so I ended up ordering a Griffin radiator. It only took them 2 weeks to make it and I also had them weld on mounting brackets for an electric fan. The radiator fits great in my 67.

I am running a BE COOL alum radiator in my 67 GTO. I had to modify the fan shroud to fit but it wasnt hard to do. But did have to cut and carve it up some, but the radiator fits just fine and made a big difference in cooling for me.

Colette, howdy neighbor! I live in Pleasanton. I had a BeCool in a 69 SS Camaro (502), and I was pleased with it.
My GTO has a Griffin in it now, and that's a great piece as well. Fits great, car runs super cool, and it looks decent too. Mike M

Have you tried getting in touch with Rodney Red directly? Slim chance, but maybe going direct will eliminate the backorder problem.

I placed my order with Summit and spent a bit over $1400. for a Be Cool along with the electric fans and... the hole kit basicaly. This is more than I paid for the (finished) engine I plan on running. I did go for the polished $300. differance. Figure $1100 or $1400 what the differance at that point. I'm sure it will work out well though. The plan is to have the car running on the 12th. I'll let you know then. Thanks for the good advise.

I ordered 2 griffin aluminum rads for my 66+67 GTO's. I've got to hand it to them because they look factory and do an incredible job. And damn they look good. Other rads look too modified and non-original for my liking. They also ship pretty fast..... Joe

I run a Be Cool in my 65 it fit well but not really a big change not what they claimed. But that is a whole different subject.
Mine fit ok but had to do a little modification on bottom and it has an extra plate i drilled to put long bolts in to make it set up higher. If you get a non polishied it will polish up nicely. |

I was doing research for cooling options on my 68 Firebird (455) and I went to by a electric fan from BeCool. These guys tried for days to get me to buy their radiator and twin fan setup.."We dont think that will be a big enough radiator to cool your engine" But when I asked about the fan I ordered they said "Oh it will cool your engine just fine". WHATEVER... I went through Summit and got there two core racing radiator, its as big as a four core and the fan I got from BeCool is almost 2400cfm. Altogther, the radiator was less than $250.00, the fan about $290.00 and thats with THIER wiring kit which I had to get or they WOULD NOT guarantee it.

Colette,
Please post a picture of the installed radiator. I'm very interested in seeing what a polished BeCool looks like. John

Will do, it very well could take a couple of months though. I am out at sea right now floating around with the Coast Guard. In the mean time though I try to get someone at home to snap a few shots, so I can post them sooner.

Sounds nice I know I paid way to much for mine. Maybe I woke them up a little with my post both RR and PY's. If everything goes right I should be home this comming weekend and have some more up-to-date pictures.

Not about waking up, its about having been covered up. I had some scrap maggot steal a shipment of cores from me and it takes about 6 weeks to get more, so that put me behind for most of the summer. Now that the weather is cooler I have been able to close in on my orders. Delivery depends on the radiator, but for most I can get one shiped in a couple days. I have some guys waiting on complete systems, but I should have be caught completely up by after Thanksgiving.
If you order from PY or direct, delivery is about the same. I want to thank everyone for the business also. Its been really great to build raditors for the best cars ever made. |
