Looking for any info into swapping an external regulator alternator to a more efficient internal reg alterntor. It's in a 68 Firebird with a 75 .60 over 455.
Thanks in advance, Roy |

If not concerned about 'looks',it's easy.
You'll need the 2 wire pigtail for the internal alternator,I think the brackets will still work. The large "BATT" terminal which gets connected to your battery positive. (Or Pos. Post of your 'ford' relay is so equipped). The #1 or "R" or Relay Terminal. (Marked with a "1" and "R" on case) This terminal is used to connect to the dash warning light. For the warning light, a lamp is wired in series with a switched voltage source. During normal operation the lamp stays off. If the regulator is damaged, the #1 terminal provides ground, and the warning lamp will light. The #2 or "F" or Field or Sense Terminal. (Marked with a 2 and "F" on case) It is connected to the battery positive. For simplicity you can connect the #2 connector pigtail directly to the "batt" terminal on the alternator. This is what I do.Factory is usually down further in the wiring harness to alternator. The main thing is to have the #1 or 'R' being switched.Want to be able to turn the car off. johnta1 Pontiac Power RULES !!! www.wallaceracing.com

Jonhta1 is right. IF you want to do it without running new wires, the following works: At the regulator connector, jump "F" to term #4 for the idiot light connection and jump term #2 to term #3. for the battery sense connection.
At the alternator, the old wire that went to "F" now goes to term #1 on the alt, and the old "R" wire goes to term #@ on the new alt. Done deal. George

another way to do the wiring , easier and safer IMHO, is contact a company called, Powermaster, they sell high output alternators, starters, etc, they sell a two piece wiring adaptor kit, allows you to connect your factory harness to the internal reg alternator,NO cutting or splicing! adaptor for regulator harness, adaptor for alternator plug, only cost me $15 bucks! well worth it! check the web for there site, (sorry don't know there address)
