In the '96 Gran Prix the speedometer quit, and the transmission won't shift. The car runs fine but won't come out of first gear. After several days and a new speed sensor, the transmission shop says it is not the transmission. They say I have an electrical problem. Where do I start looking?

Check you signal coming out of the speedsensor.
Then check to see if the signal is getting to the cluster. You are going to need a schematic.
The trans will not shift if the cluster is not receving a speed signal.
Scan for codes and see if anything comesup

I've seen a problem with the VSS connector and have seen the harness melt about 1 foot away from the VSS.GM has a service connector available.
