got new m/t slicks last saturday. ran 'em sunday.
went out to garage today and one has a slow leak. these are tube type but i was told i could run them tubeless. screwed them to rims with 3/4" long screws. what are my options? install tubes? can i do only the one that is leaking? fix-a-flat? thanks, david |

6t7, This is what worked for me after I went tubeless. I saturated a clean shop rag with Dawn dishwashing liquid and completely wiped the inside and the bead of the tire before mounting. I haven't had a slick lose air since. My son didn't do this to his tires, and he has to air them up every raceday. My car has been sitting, on pieces of carpet, in the garage since race season ended (Labor Day) and the slicks are still up.

The dishwashing soap worked for me also and was recommended by the Mickey Thompson outlet.
I no longer use rim screws after Robert Johnson, Ponti-Carlo and Tiger pilot, informed me that these 8-10 sec. cars only spun their rims when pressures were reduced below 15psi. Les

Dishwashing soap is the answer. Soak them good. I also do not run screws anymore.

Use the soap every all over the inside of the tire I have video the tire only and we must screw LOL ok the rims I am just having fun |

I spun my 30"x9" radial slick Goodyears on my 8.5" Centerlines when only turning a 1.58 60ft. The tire pressure was 16lbs.Car weight about 3400lbs. I have them screwed on now.

Joy or Dawn dishwashing liquid is the ticket. Liberally apply to inside,don't miss any places. When I had my MT's mounted at Norwalk at the track shop they did not apply liquid to the bead. I don't use screws and haven't spun tires on rim(yet) @15-19 PSI and car weighs 4000# and does 1.5-1.6 60's. Just my experience FWIW.

Did you check the valve core? Maybe the person changing your slicks did not get them both tight. Did you change valve stems? I would replace the valve cores, and air them back up to 25 PSI, and put the caps on, and see what happens. If it still leaks, air up again to 25 PSI and spray a soapy water mix around the valve stems. This "leak check" method is cheap, easy and effective.
I have a centerline auto drag that is a leaker. It is leaking between the halves, and took the soapy water "leak check" method to find the leak. When air'ed up and sprayed with soapy water, the bubbles can be seen coming out of the seam inside the centercap hole.

I have a leaking Centerline autodrag at the same place you mention. What is the recommended fix for this? I already tried to re-seal the inside part where halves meet. I think I need to toally stripp the sealer out and start over. It is on one of my front wheels, and now that it's cold out it leaks much more quickly.

I put a can of fix-a-flat in mine, with the wheel off the car. I flipped and rolled the wheel to get the liquid spread out within. I did this over a period of several days. I had to air it up each day. Then I put the wheel on the car. When the lugs get torqued the wheel halve get compressed. This wheel no longer leaks, as long as its on the car and torqued. When it is removed it has a slow leak. This was done to a rear wheel with a slick mounted. I was getting tired of the slick leaking between races. Also, after the leak was fixed, I broke the bead and removed the excess fix-a-flat liquid from within, otherwise a I would have run into a wheel/tire balance issue.

Took the tip from Ron and I covered the inside of both tires with Dawn before having them mounted. Even with that, one of my 28x10.5 M/Ts would go flat after about 4 days.
Took some soapy water and sprayed both beads, the core and the valve stem where it met the rim. Nothing. Tightened the core a little anyway. Put air in them and raced last weekend. Just put the tires away last night. Both of them are still pumped up. Go figure.

I put a dab of black silicone on the rim screws before I put them in. Have not had a problem since doing this. Before that they would leak at the screws.

I figure the only way the air is getting out between the two halves is at the point where they come together and they are "sealed". I'm gonna put the ralley's back on for the next few weeks while the car is getting the cage done. I'll break the tire down off the rim, and remove, clean, and reseal it. It is just a PITA to have to add air all the time. I'll post the results.

I used Palmolive on my Hoosier QT Pro's....coated the poop out of the entire inside....they really don't loose any air at all.
