I broke the stock shifter handle on my 66 GTO and I'm having trouble finding a replacement. Is there an after market shifter that will work in the stock console and still look good. Currently have the stock console, stock 2-speed shifter with a ShiftWorks conversion for the TH400 tranny.
Thanks
Ken

Thunder,

I originally installed a Shiftworks kit in my 66 GTO w/console to control my 700 trans. I found that it was too easy to miss a gear as the detents were too close together and not positive enough.

I have installed a B&M Quicksilver shifter which allows "normal operation" as well as full rachet operation. Summit part # BMM-80683, $142.

There isn't any shifter that just bolts up and this shifter required a lot of fitting and shimming in order to look correct when done.

Post me a Pix of the shifter and handle.
I may have one lying around.

Usually I'm found working on my Pontiac. If you want to find me Look for the white picket fence and all the old Pontiacs parked outside. And the half dissembled engine sprawled all over the driveway!

This is not a super hard shifter to find. They appear regularly on Eplay, and since you don't need a complete unit, the chances of you finding what you need is pretty good.

It is used in '66 Lemans, '66 GTO, and '67 Lemans.
In addition, a variation is used in the '66 fullsize line. On the full size line, the base is different as it has detents for 3 gears (TH400), and it may be a little taller.
It may cause a clearance problem with the console, but I think you can just pilfer the arm and use it on your car.
