I can't seem to find the help i need on olds boards and I was told that Pontiac and olds posi rear ends were the same for a-bodies 64-66. I was given a 66 442 posi rear with 3:90 gears. It has a 4 pinion posi (unusual i think). Unfortunatly it has a chipped pinion. I'd really like to get into some 3:42's or 3:55's.

Will this carrier work with other gear sets?

Are gear sets available for these years?

Thanks

The '66 Olds 442 used the 8.2 BOP (64-66) 8.2 10 bolt ring & pinion.

One can buy the following new Richmond gear series from Summit (243.95+ ship) or California Gear:

-3.55
-3.90
-4.10
-4.56 (maybe still avail)

Select used (or impossible to find nos) gears to fit same low ratio 8.2 10 bolt carrier are avail in following ratios:

-3.36
-4.33

The 3.42 gear ratio was not used with '64-66 BO or 64-69 Pontiac 8.2 ten bolt, but was a '68-70 Buick 8.2 10 bolt...will not fit anything but 68-70 Buick 8.2 hsgs.

thanks a ton,

also are there any tricks to setting up these (64-66) rears? I mean compared to the gear swap on a corporate 10 bolt. Thanks

Check out www.442.com,you will have all information needed.
Buick and Pontiac shared the internals 64-67,Olds were using these axles these years.1968-70 Olds had their own 10-bolt 8.3" wich had a 12-bolt cover.Buick went to 8.5" ring 1968 and Pontiac continued with the 8.2" to 1972.
