I have a 62 Grand Prix 4speed car, with 8 lug wheels. I am thinking about disc brake conversion. Has anyone done this? Can I use the spindle? Thanks for your help Ken

The spindles on '62 big cars are all the same, whether you have the regular drum brakes or 8 lug drums. So, you can convert to disks (I assume you're looking at the kit from Scarebird or something similar) but of course you'll lose the 8 lugs since they are integral with the drums. You'll have to buy a set of regular wheels, either some stock steel wheels or some mag wheels from the aftermarket.

Thanks for the info. The spindle's were my main question. I have an older style set of Torque-thrusts that I want to put on car. I think they will look sharp. Now I just need to decide which conversion kit to go with. Any advice?

Thanks again, Ken

Not to discourage you from going with the torque thrust, but the 8 lugs rims are really cool and your car looks bitching as is. This is coming from a guy that has 17's on my 67 Lemans and 18's on my 72 442, so I'm into aftermarket rims.

You wanna take the 8-lugs OFF

That's crazy talk man!!!!! As a proud owner of a 65 Cat with the 8-lugs, I can honestly say that NOTHING looks as cool as 8-lugs!

I have a 66 Bonneville convertible with 8 lug rims. They look great, but the steel liners are getting thin. and repairing them at this time seems hopeless

I recently purchased a complete front disc brake set-up from a 69 Bonneville 4 dr.
I cleaned, glass beaded and painted the spindles, brackets & backing plates. I have a set of new (reman) loaded front calipers, a new bendix dual master cylinder, a metering valve from the 69 disc brake set-up, used & machined front brake rotors (2 piece) & the complete rear brake set-up with new shoes & wheel cylinders, cleaned & painted backing plates & used, machined rear brake drums.

Any interest in a trade? I have everything you would need to convert your car to disc brakes.

I was going to convert my 66 Bonneville to disc brakes & Torque Thrust wheels, just as you're thinking of doing, but I would like to stay with the eight lug set-up if I could!

Ron

Eight lugs are awesome!!!! we have 3 sets, 1 on my 65 cat. wagon ,1 on a 63 cat 2dr hdtp, and 1 on a 62 bonne. wagon. I would stay with the eight lugs,,,,, But then again thats just my opinion.

I've always loved the look of 8 lugs. I'd put them on my car if i could.
